Medairon
The South will never bow to a kind as savage as yours! Go forth horse lords of the promised Kingdom! Go forth and fall by the blades of the righteous!A title created in the most ancient of times, Medairon literally means "Southern Lord". While not an especially impressive title in the Common Tongue or modern Vardanian, it does gain much greater weight when seen through the lens of its original language, that of the old southern tribes. In it, "lord" stands in for the highest of power. "Southern Lord" in this case would mean "ruler over all lands of the southern world". In reality, this area shrinks down to encompass the lands known today as the Summer Coast. A Medairon would be able to claim rulership over the Vardanian tribes that once used to call this region their own, most notably the Samnii, Herulai and Velethari. Most of these no longer exist, however. The Feran Invasions in the 8th century DA are thought to have destroyed nine out of ten of all Vardanian tribes and of the southern people only the Samnii remain. As such the title has been subsumed by Samnii identity and mythology, is associated with the mythical Iron King and his Nine-Peaked Wreath. To those strongly believing that the Samnii and only the Samnii are justified in claiming all of southern Vardania as their own, it is a rallying cry. Several times throughout the ages there have been men and women proclaimed as Medairon, most often in an attempt to take control of the capital of the Samnii people, the Iron City of Sur. Each attempt was met with failure sooner or later, either by Feran of Avitae hand, for no Vardanian ruler can tolerate someone that would so blatantly claim a huge chunk of the continent as their own.
Understandable reaction, isn't it? If you were a ruler in the south and some fool would claim all your land as their onw, you'd do your utmost to stop them from pressing that claim, wouldn't you?
