The Monks of St. Jerry
Note: This is a special Occupation for Psi-Stalker characters unique to the Coalition. All references in the Palladium or Pinnacle source material to Coalition Psi-Stalkers is replaced by the Monks of St. Jerry in this world.
Vampires of magical life energy, they are trained from birth to be The Church of Man's weapons against the arcane and supernatural.
Career
Qualifications
When a psi-stalker child is born in the Coalition States, it is a blessed event. Believing their child has been touched by The God of Man, it is given over to The Church of Man for upbringing as a Monk of St. Jerry. Rarely does a newborn psi-stalker born in the Coalition States reach its first birthday outside the monastery.
Career Progression
Indoctrination starts immediately. They are referred to as novice during this stage of their life. They are given a greek letter instead of a name until they reach the age of 11. At this time they must choose a name from among the heroes and holy men of the Coalition's grand history. This naming is a solemn and meaningful ceremony. Once they choose a name they begin preparation for their Rassophore test.
By the time a monk has reached adolescence, he or she is fully convinced of their place in the world. If they pass their test they are promoted to the rank of Rassophore and begin training with Dog Boys and other military units at Fort Vaska. They are given special robes to wear and provided with a tonsure. In the past, tonsure was the act of shaving the top of the head of the monk. Psi-Stalkers are naturally bald though, so the word tonsure in this case is given to a black cotten circlet they wear symbolizing the remaining hair that a tonsured monk of the old-days would have.
When the Rassophore completes this training, which could take many years, they enter the ranks of the Stavrophore, the cross bearers. They will be given cross tattoo on the face (as shown in the cover photo) and a permanent duty assignment. Their tonsures become a ceremonial device only worn on special occasions and when worn is now red. It is with the the Stavraphore most people come in contact. This is also the rank that leads dog-boy packs for hunting, patrols and reconnaissance.
Monks who reach the rank of Great Schema are rare. These elite schema monks are only the most accomplished and loyal, are selected by the Archbishop himself and personally appointed by the @emperor.
