Chapter 11: June the 8th

General Summary

A chicken-scratch excerpt from a recent diary entry,

Dear Diary,
Perhaps my good for nothing son, Urwin, may not be as useless as I had thought - in his own way he has delivered to us some much needed assistance.
Just a day or two ago, the twig blights forced us from our home. We still don't quite know what they were looking for, but they must not have found it as they certainly did a number in turning over every room in the house, and almost nothing is missing. Oh well, sucks to be a tree, hee hee!
We have been able to return to our home becuase of some quite unorthadox adventurers! A corpse of a dwarf, a strange pirate, a naked beast of a man, and the most fair and beautiful maiden I had ever seen! Awoogah, awoogah! Nothing like those Harpers that rolled through over a decade ago - they were coordinated! Shame they didn't heed our warnings. Anyway, the "Guardians" as they called themselves came rolling through the vineyard on a carriage, loud and obnoxious - I'm sure they would have died if I hadn't hailed them to join us in the forest.
I told them of our woes and our missing seeds and they hardly hesitated to rally behind clearing the winery of blights and finding where the druids took our seed last week. And boy did they strut their stuff! Backflips and fire spells, wowwee! They even chased after a horse on foot and threw its cart up into the air with their minds! Those grifters did find a sword made of light in a secret room in our cellar though and kept it without even asking! I chose to let it go as a token of grace, I am the bigger man.
They soon after ventured south to Yester Hill to attempt to find the seed that the druids stole. When they returned they told us a tale most disturbing! Apparently the Dreadlord Strahd himself was there and used his dark powers to create a staff for the druids to use in a terrifiyng ritual. Fortunately, the Guardians were able to stop the ritual, but to escape they had to command the power of darkness to bait the vampyr lord. Its not every day that someone survives an encounter with the Devil himself.
The voluptuous druid used her magic to purify our vats and hurry along our missing crop of grapes - her actions have brought the people of Barovia months closer to drowning out their sorrows. Perhaps we can name a blend after her? A spiced wine called Wildfire? A sweet wine named Mommy's Mother's Mana? I'll have to think on it tonight!
