Lunaire Base

Lunaire Base is the station which is located on Aarde's moon Lysande. It is a research station, although minor experimental manufacturing occurs there as well.

Government

The base is run by a commander that is elected by the citizens living on site. This commander serves for 1 year, and has no term limits. Juries are assembled out of citizens to handle legal cases (which are rare). All residents are exempt from taxation. Essential resources are communal.

Defences

The base is pressurized and all members of the settlement have military training. A cache of weapons is at hand at all times as well.

Industry & Trade

Manufacturing equipment is mainly for the purpose of experimenting with what works. More manufacturing happens at other bases. However, a small-scale mining operation is located at Lunaire, and all wealth collected is either sent back to Aarde or is used in the base.

Infrastructure

The base itself houses living quarters, multiple science labs, resource storage, a vehicle bay, and a series of tunnels beneath the surface in which various manufacturing machines can be used in experiments. In addition, there is also a permanently open portal between Lunaire and the surface of Aarde. A landing pad is located in a nearby crater.

Assets

Multiple vehicles remain on base at all times. In addition, the local population harvests small amounts of minerals, often very valuable.

History

Lunaire was the first lunar research base on Lysande. It also set the precedent for base design in lunar environments, and many subsequent lunar bases emulated the designs originally in Lunaire.

Geography

The base is located near a crater, which houses the landing pad. The mining operation is located in the opposite direction.

Natural Resources

Various metals are available in the surface, as are trace amounts of ice. However, water and food supplies must be shipped in, via the open portal to the surface of Aarde.
