Session 3
General Summary
The party thought they were finished with their little goblin problem until they realized they were in a forest... with flaming tents around them. Valthurg Violently started using the goblin bodies to stamp out the flames while Ginger used his Aquaeus Blast spell to cool the coals that began to develop. Vendar and Ginger then began to dig a trench to keep the flames from spreading while Askaladd attempted to ask the animals for help. After some time the flames grew smaller and were no longer a threat to the forest around them.
Askaladd started to become nervous because Ruby had not yet returned so he let out a whistle to call his bear back. Ruby eventually returned with the Goblin Commando in his jaws trying to wriggle free. The goblin commando would not divulge information regarding the questions ginger asked him. Ginger in a quick rage burned each side of the goblins head with his produce flame spell killing the poor goblin commando. Valthurg thought this to be hilarious, though they did not get the information they wanted. They camped over night to heal up and then climbed some of the mountainside to get a view to possibly see the direction they should go. Everyone was able to see the Abandoned Ruins from their position and began making their way to them. When they arrived Dheez the Wandering Trader was outside of the ruins picking Dheez Nuts from his Dheez Tree Orchard. The party decided to communicate with him to find out he was just absolutely crazy. probably from eating all of the Dheez Nuts.
Dheez is roped into scouting the Abandoned ruins for the party due to Valthurgs scary intimidation. He tells them about an altar that is broken at the top of the ruins and a Gate that leads down into the depths of the ruins. After some time and a few gashes on Valthurgs hand later, the party is able to unlock the gate due to Vendar's lockpicking skills and the combined strength of the party forced the gate open. They traveled down into the depths where they ran into a statue first. No big deal... yet. They make their way further in where they come to another branch in the hall. The party splits up, Valthurg and Ginger, Askaladd and Vendar. Vendar and Askaladd go into the burial room where Vendar grabs a sword from inside one of the tombs. A spirit raises up and charges him but Vendar is too quick and dodged perfectly out of the way. An impressive feat to say the least. Meanwhile Ginger and Valthurg are grabbing coins from the large pile in the room they entered. Little did they know this awakened the statue that was "No big deal". After the two groups finished their exploring they met back up at the branch and continued further in. In the final room they saw the carving of a man holding his hand out waiting for something. Ginger believes that this is clearly a secret door but where is the key?
Ginger has an idea and takes Askaladd with him to go back to the statue, maybe there is a clue. The Statue had already begun to pursue them so they met halfway where the statue took a swing on the two party members missing terribly. In fact the sword became stuck in the wall for a brief moment before being pulled back out by the statue. Askaladd took a few steps back and casted Horizon Thunder Spear only to miss. Valthurg and Vendar heard the commotion and made their way to go help the other two. Valthurg busted through the wall like a battering ram only to see Askaladd and Ginger go down with one strike each. Valthurg revived ginger with a health potion and traded places with him. Valthurg then took a small strike from the statue after which Valthurg threw one of their thunderstone behind the statue causing it massive damage. With the statue cracked and breaking the party pulls it over with the rope that Vendar had previously lassoed around it. This finished the statue off as it disintegrated into dust leaving behind a small sphere with carvings on it that resembled continents, like a hand carved globe.
Gingers instincts tell him that this must be the key to the secret door further in. When they place the stone orb in the palm of the carving in the wall the ground begins to shake, dust falls from the ceiling making it impossible to see. The sound of stones falling away and grinding against eachother can be heard before the earth becomes still once again. When the dust settles another tunnel is open and leads further into the depths of the ruins. This tunnel brings them to another room with 3 more of the same statue they found above. Vendar sneaks forward to discern this for the party. They decide to use their second thunderstone and break all three statues at the same time. This was quite effective. one's weapon was destroyed, another lost a leg and the third lost an arm. With the statues broken they were much easier to destroy with one strike each they were turned into piles of dust and cement. The party continued to investigate and found A LOT of gold but they could only carry 200 gold each. They finally made their way to the last room. Before they even entered, the room was billowing heat towards them and bright orange light illuminated the halls. When they walked in there was a pit of lava seperating either side of the room. On the other side of the room the party could see a stone sitting on top of a pedestal shimmering in the magmas glow.
The partys first idea was to use a grappling arrow to get across. Instead, they decided to have Valthurg throw Ginger across the 30 foot gap of, que Austin Powers reference "Hot Liquid Magma". The first attempt did not go so well as Ginger only made it about halfway before falling down. Luckily the party was fast enough to pull Ginger back with the rope they tied to him before he fell into the lava. With a smoking tail Ginger puts it in his mouth to douse the flame and then yells for round 2. Valthurg Gives another attempt with the same outcome. Although this time Ginger loses his tail and a few toes to the lava as the party manages to bring Ginger back to the ledge. While Ginger is screaming in agony Valthurg drinks the two potions they acquired from the Burned Nomadic Goblin Camp, a spiderfoots brew and a potion of expeditious retreat. Valthurg runs across the wall at an incredible speed. When he grabs the stone a cloud of freezing gas sprays his arm freezing his skin causing it to crack when he moves. Valthurg then runs back to the party and attempts to use the stone to heal Gingers wounds. It does not work and Ginger insists the stone stay in his tail stub hole. The party returns to the surface where they make camp with Dheez in his "Abode"... it's actually just a hole. Ginger intimidates Dheez into becoming their traveling companion and giving them ownership of his Dheez Orchard. They then spend the next 3 days going back to town meanwhile discussing their trust in the mayor. When the party makes it back to town they go to the Apothecary where they try to get claire to identify this magic stone for them. She tells them it is magical but not any magic that she has ever seen. Her suggestion is to take this to the mayor as he is someone who excells in studying these types of things. After all he was an adventurer for a short time in his early years.
The party then goes to the mayors mansion where they ask him of his intentions for the stone. He insists that the stone will be used by the apothecary when he discovers how to use it. Reluctantly the party gives Barddock the stone that was still socketed into Gingers stub hole. Vendar demands that Ginger recieve compensation for his lost appendage and toes so the mayor offers Ginger a custom made metal tail with a hand at the end. Will Ginger accept his offer? or will Ginger haggle for a more desirable prostethic? We'll have to wait until next session to find out.
