The Flaming Fist

Through their many years of service, the striking emblem of the flaming fist has become synonymous with Baldur's Gate. Funded directly by the Council of Four Dukes, they are tasked largely with patrolling and policing the Lower City.
Although with Baldur's Gate facing a leadership crisis, they are now struggling to maintain order. Hopefully their new Commander Liara Portyr can live up to her reputation.

Structure

The Flaming Fist is a mercenary organization headed traditionally by the Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate. The ranks are organized as follows:
-Marshal, the Fist's general -Blaze, equivalent to a major -Flame, an officer that served as lieutenant -Manip, a Flaming Fist sergeant -Gauntlet, comparable to a corporal -Fist, the rank given to private soldiers
However as a mercenary organization, their only tangible ties to the city are being hired as mercenaries. Though many say that their long history of servitude warrants some level of loyalty. Whether or not that is the case, is another story.

History

Founded long ago as a mercenary force by Grand Duke Eltan of Baldur's Gate, the fist began as a collection of groups hired at discounted rates by the city. Through the years they explored the surrounding area and established bases in places as far as Port Nyanzaru. But as time went on they became more and more entwined with the fate of the city, and eventually became known as its police force.
