The Grand Cemetary

The Grand Cemetery lay in the westernmost past of the city, within the walls. Surrounded by a brass fence and gate 10 feet (3 meters), it held gravestones, statues, monuments, and mausoleums for the departed; a ossuary below ground; and a chapel dedicated to Lathander, Torm, Helm, and Tyr. It was a beautiful place, being filled with grass and flowers.

Purpose / Function

Built to hold funerals and house the dead of Elturel. It was modeled in honour of the gods the people of Elturgard worshiped: Lathander, Torm, Helm, and Tyr.

Alterations

Much of the cemetery was destroyed and desecrated as the city of Elturel was dragged down to Avernus

Architecture

A large brass fence surrounded a great area of about 35 acres which held many graves and private mausoleums. The gardens were tended to regularly and beuatiful imagery of the God Lathander filled the area. At the centre of the cemetary their was a wuant chapel which held the services for those who had passed. A modestly sized building with beautiful pillars and grand stain glass windows. And directly underneath an ossuary in which bodies were prepared and high members of the clergy were burried. It held stone carvings and beautifully done archways with two meditation rooms. As well as a display room with some holy artifacts and artworks of Lathander and Torm.

History

After being dragged to Avernus. the cemetery was used as a base of operations for Gideon Lightward, a man who said he was there to hold back the waves of demonic incursions in the city. He did so with the help of undead creatures who roamed around the cemetery. Boh monsters and at one point citizens of Elturel. It is where Duke Ulder Ravengard went to find the Helm of Torms Sight and was eventually rescued by a group of adventurers.
