The High Hall
It stood on the southern edge of Elturel, atop a bluff or tor at the center of the city and at the edge of a cliff overlooking the River Chionthar. Its walls encircled the summit, and the soaring turrets of the castle dominated the city below. The second sun known as the Companion hovers directly over the castle, day and night.
Architecture
The cathedral has three floors, the first is the main are that is home to magnificent tapestries, pillars depicting religious iconography, large spaces separated by heavy curtains, many prayer rooms, and an iconic wooden monument to Torm. The Stonework appears well done with most archways designed in a nod to dwarven architecture. The floors are covered with limestone tiles gleaming with the light cast by continual flame spells burning on wall scones. The monument itself opens from a clenched fist into an open hand with the pull of a lever next to it. Traditionally offerings to Torm are placed in the hand. However there is a secret panel in the palm which reveals a smaller lever that in turn opens a staircase leading to the catacombs.
The catacombs are home to various rooms that act as mausoleums to both low level clergy, and private rooms for the most renowned worshipers of Torm. Amongst these is also the resting place of an unknown hero of Elturel encased in a glass case. The ceilings are much lower that the cathedral, perhaps 10 ft. With more dark stone inlays on the walls and floor. There is additionally a temple in the west wing home to many important religious ceremonies which additionally houses the sarcophagi of all the past High Priests of Torm. A meeting room with a large red oak table that can seat forty comfortably. And the main crypts which have many alcoves containing rows of sarcophagi and two large vats of holy water in the center.
History
After Elturel was dragged to Avernus, High Hall quickly became the last seat of human resistance against the devils overtaking the city. Ulder Ravengard had originally taken charge but left to the Grand Cemetary in the western section of the city to quell the proliferation of undead and search for an ancient religious relic. In his absence the cathedral was assaulted by three groups of infernal soldiers attempting to wipe out the last organized group of resistance in the city. They were however thwarted by a group of adventurers who then left to find Ravengard.
