Personal history

Iolanta Nicolades was a human child born 21 years ago. Her birth was extraordinary in its timing, but in all of the wrong ways. Born under the star sign of the titan known as Talona, her life was cursed, cursed with constant and unrelenting misfortune. She was the 6th child of a large farm family, born at 6 PM, on the 6th month of the year. Misfortune plagued her for most of her childhood, it started small, first it was the cap of the salt shaker always falling off when she tipped it, then it became a lot more drastic, annoying her constantly as she aged. Iolanta could not catch a break, so she left her superstitious farm town, besides, people really didn’t seem to like her there. She applied to go to a university in the big city, which in and of itself was a journey, the ship was destroyed by a Kraken, but luckily she washed up on the shore next to her destination. Things were finally looking up, but her application was lost by the school in an act of negligence, when the school found out the mistake, the application was already digested by the trashman, so unfortunately she would have to apply next year. Unperturbed by her bad fate, she pressed onwards, trying to find work in the big city, several workplace accidents and the dock ward being on fire a little, she was out of a job and in jail, accidentally implicated in a nearby gang murder, in an interesting stroke of luck, completely unheard of to her, she was let out, they found the killer, and a prime witness was a boatman. This did not add up to Iolanta, and so she sought out the boatman who supposedly saved her life. It was a man by the name of Aros, but Aros was no man, he was a Merrenoloth, a being of Hades, workers of the Styx river man Charon. Aros explained that he was in a fair bit of hot water with Charon, and needed some cash, 33 of every coin piece in Coalition currency. Yugoloths do not do anything for free, so he offered Iolanta a deal, bring him the money, and he can help with her bad luck, the source of her fate. The riverman even sweetened the deal a little due to his current situation, she could harness the largest amount of infernal power that he could offer ( She accepted, and was bestowed the Yugoloth’s power, and a trusty oar. Thus Aros and Iolanta formed a deal, she became a tiefling, got some nice powers, and now was in debt to the Yugoloth. Feeling a little generous, Aros gave a little information up front to Iolanta, about what was chasing her, an agent of death from another world was following her shadow, also, she would meet a weird bird, a constructed man, a con-artist, and a holy knight, several of which claim to be royalty, except for the construct, he’s not got some amazing blood related fate. She would find them near a spot pertaining to her birth. Telling her that, Aros boarded his boat and paddled off, saying that he would be in touch. That hint did very little to help out Iolanta, only when she was browsing a library, did she find a clue, within a map, a place known as the Maw of the God Swallower, a site where Talona apparently lays. Then, an idea occurred to her, as she gazed at the nearby murals art. Art was her passion, not just any art, the spoken word. They could not be stained, or burned, or ripped to shreds because they came from inside. An art form unaffected by her poor luck. So now, she’s attempting to become a bard of the spoken word, and also not die.
