A Wyrm and a Warrior

Navi would usually be out in the sky by now, piercing the limits of the atmosphere whilst tearing through the clouds above. Yet today was different, and Roxy could tell. Usually, at this point in the morning, Roxy would use one of Navi’s pillows to hug in the early hours, usually waking up to the sound of soaring above the small island they lived on. Stirring upon the mattress, Roxy woke up to the sight of Navi, reading a book whilst sitting on the boardwalk that led to the now-defunct Coalition’s headquarters. Her hands seemed to be on her lap, with her body turned away from Roxy. As the warrior rose from the bed, she blew her hair away from her gaze, getting a good look at her love. The suns were still rising. “You’re usually up in the air by now, love. Something on your mind?” She got to her feet, making her way on over, past the weapons rack, the stuffed animal, and the leftovers of last night's meal. Trotting on over, she heard the closing of a book, being placed onto the wooden boards below them both.
“Hmm? Oh, morning sweetheart. Good sleep?” Navi stood, and turned to face her, providing shade to Roxy as she stood, covering the suns behind her. “And no, not at all, Roxy. I’m just not in the mood to waste all of my energy right now. There’s something much more important happening tonight,” Her lips curled into a smirk, which caught Roxy’s attention.
“Hmm, whatever you say, love. Sounds fun. Say… if you are free right now, I could always use a sparring partner?” She went on over to a keg of ale, grabbing a mug over it, then going to a separate keg, instead filled with iced water.
“I’d love to! What are you in the mood for? Hand-to-hand? Mel… something, the one that means close-quarters? I can always grab our safety arrows if you want to go for some longbow training?” Whilst Navi did struggle to remember all of the terms of combat that Roxy geeked out about, she always tried her best in remembering them.
“It’s melee, but really close! We can do that, if you want. I’ll grab the replica swords,” Roxy gave a smile, she was so proud of Navi being able to remember all of the details she did.
Roxy began to search the home, looking for the training swords. She crouched down, lifting the lid off of a chest that she owned. Tossing trinkets over the back of her, they all landed on the bed. “Hey, I’ll… help you look, in a minute,” Navi sat down on the bed, and began to pick up some of the trinkets, messing around with whatever they did before moving onto the next one. Her eyes were gleaming with curiosity, and soon enough the whole chest was emptied, and there were no signs of the swords. “Hmm? Oh, crap. I got distracted again, didn’t I? Sorry!” Navi dropped the gizmo in her hand, and pushed forward, leaning over the bed as she looked into the empty chest.
“No need to worry, my love. We’ll find them somewhere around here,” She smiled, and took her hand, to help herself get up. She grabbed most of the trinkets, except for some sort of cube, a puzzle-box, which she let Navi hold onto. As the dragon fidgeted away, Roxy began to look behind every wardrobe, or armour stand. By the windows, on the support beams above, even below some loose floorboards. They were nowhere to be seen! “I’m starting to think I left them back at the Guildhall, or my Father’s castle. We should give them both a look, what do you think?” There was a long pause, Navi staring at the cube in wonder to try and decipher its layers. She’s bested ancient dragons and maniacal warlords before, but a wooden cube with moving pieces has bested her! If only Roxy could help, but poor Navi, as stubborn as a dragon can be, would never accept it, even if it’ll take her weeks to solve, like the last one. Although… Navi enjoyed being able to not focus on anything else but simple things, like a puzzle. It made sure that the world was safe, as if it wasn’t, Navi could not let herself focus on such simple things.
“Hmm? Huh?” Seems as if she got distracted again, standing up. “Oh, yes. Let’s get going there, as soon as possible, mhm,” Roxy raised an eyebrow, a smirk forming on her face.
“Do you even know where we’re going?” She stood up, and walked closer, standing over where Navi sat. “Well, uh… I know that we’re going somewhere!” She tried laughing it up, but Roxy just folded her arms. “Okay, well, maybe I don’t actually know. But those tiny things are just so- I have no idea how you humans ever get anything done, with all of these tiny, little things around!” She tossed one of the fidget toys into the air, landing behind her. It got Roxy to laugh, the warrior cupping her cheek.
“You’re adorable, you know. Now, come on. Now that I know you’re listening, we’re going to the Galahad castle. You remember it, right? My father - Lord Galahad’s home,” With Navi’s full attention, she gave an affirmative nod, and stood up, towering over Roxy. Sure, to anybody else, she’d seem just as threatening as she’d be in her true form, but with Roxy, it was almost as if she had a separate personality for being with her. She always got giddy and excited upon seeing her, and was unable to hide any emotions when around her. Navi couldn’t even restrain herself from hugging Roxy tightly, lifting her into the air to do a small spin. “Oh! Um, is that a yes, Navi?” Navi laughed, bringing her over her shoulder, whilst leading the way out of their small home, and onto the coastal boardwalk.
“Of course it is, love. I’m happy to follow wherever you go,”
Roxy rested her head against Navi’s shoulder, admiring the view of the ocean. Navi would’ve flown over if she wasn’t planning to turn to her true form at night. Also, the walk is nice, and it keeps Roxy in a semi-haze, seeing the ocean. By the time that Roxy realised that she was fixated on the waves, she had just lost sight of them. Blinking a few times, she glanced up to Navi, who was still travelling across the pathway. From wood, to dirt, it seemed the two have gone down this path many times before. “Regular sword training today, right? Or are we going for the fancy stuff?” Navi asked, giving a quick glimpse down to her love. At first, Roxy was going to correct her, but just smiled instead.
“Yes, Navi. It’ll just be simple training for today. We had enough bizarre fights against Malus,” She laughed, resting her head back against Navi’s arm. Navi kept quiet, keeping her gaze on the path directly in front of her. If she ended up going into a deep conversation, she’d probably stop in her tracks and begin to wander, instead. Roxy, too, knew this. She thought of it as adorable, and kept close, eyes glued to Navi’s face. It didn’t take long for her to lose track of time, and the warm halls of Galahad’s home came back to her, and with it came memories. Ones of her childhood, battles that she’d flee from, battles she’d run to, as well as joining the adventurers that saved her, which led to meeting Navi. For all of the battles, the scars from fighting foes twice her height, she wouldn’t do it any differently. Navi makes them worthwhile. Passing the empty stone throne, Roxy’s arm extended past Navi, and brushed against the armrest of the throne, then going over its cold arch, before retreating back to the warmth of a dragon’s body. Her gaze stayed fixed on the throne until it left her sight.
Navi placed down her girlfriend, and looked at the empty courtyard. When she first visited, there were hundreds of soldiers preparing for the fight against Malus. Roxy trotted out into the centre of the open grounds, eyeing at the marks on the ground. “Where did I leave the swords, around here? It’s been quite a while… Hey, Navi, stay here for a second. I’ll get a bigger sword for you this time, too!” She ran off, making a quick heel turn upon finding herself in a familiar hallway. She passed by the remaining soldiers of the castle, in a blur to which they’d only notice her once she was already gone, finding herself in her personal armoury. Most of her weapons were still there, made blunt or out of some soft material. She grabbed two wooden swords, one for when she needed to use heavier weapons, and one for more standard fighting. She kept them over her shoulder, making her way back. Navi’s gaze met her, once she returned, eyeing the two weapons. “Wood? Sweetie, as much as I take these training sessions as just training sessions - I believe I’d break this sword with just my grip,”
“It’s not just any wood, silly! Arthurian Wood was used on my Father’s Axe, and it sent me all the way to Chthonia. Come on, let's just give it a shot! If it breaks, we’ll swap to just fists!” She tossed over the larger sword, which Navi caught without a second thought.
“Whatever you say, love. Now, I’m ready when you are,” She held the sword up in a neutral stance, the blunt blade facing her love. By the time she blinked, Roxy’s blade clashed against hers, moved down the body of the blade, before poking against Navi’s exposed abs. “Hmm?” Navi’s momentary confusion became shock upon seeing Roxy’s successful attack. She took a step back, loosening her grip on the sword. “Ah, I see. Well then. I was going to go easy on my partner, but it seems you had… other intentions,” Her lips curled into a smirk, listening to the excited giggles of her girlfriend from the successful attack.
“This is so fun! Come on, sweetie. Aren’t we gonna continue?” Roxy spun the sword over her wrist, and went for a direct thrust, again. Navi, knowing the same move, tilted her sword down, and waved it from her left side to her right, diverting the strike past her body, going for a light tap to Roxy’s temple.
The hundreds of fights had Roxy know that Navi was much different than the others. Galahad’s soldiers favoured defensive parries, with no counterattacks. It was a defensive style that she went past, preferring for the fluidity of being the more active one in a fight. Navi had no resemblance to simple parries. Her fighting style was the same as what she’d do in her true form - diversions, strong attacks, and ultimate finishers. Roxy would have to go back to her roots in this spar. She ducked, avoiding the strike before diving forward, past Navi’s body, she landed on her back, and held up her sword to block another gentle strike, her offhand taking Navi’s wrist, using her strength to pull herself into the air, landing back on the other side of the Brass Dragon. A simple overhead strike should’ve worked, but Navi predicted this, and - without looking - deflected the attack by directing her sword behind her back. The wood clashed together, Navi tilting her blade to push the sword away so she could face her. Panting softly, Roxy couldn’t help but laugh. “For a dragon, you’re much better at swordplay than you look,” Her guard lowered for a moment, but raised back up to deflect another strike. Strikes were deflected, and traded, and it seemed as if the two were locked in fighting. She would hate to admit it, but Roxy was holding back - and she has been this entire time. There wasn’t much they could do little competitions against each other on. Roxy couldn’t fly, breathe fire, or withstand a hellfire of arrows, and Navi can’t use the divine blessings of a Chthonic God. She seemed bad for dominating their duels, and so Roxy always made herself lose her guard at a bad moment, or trip over her footing, or having her weapon ‘miraculously’ get destroyed.
Their blades crashed hundreds of more times, just before Navi would go for a thrusting manuveur, her blade going to pierce past Roxy’s defence. Their duel had been going on for a while now, and she felt as if she benefited from the fight. It was time to move on, and spend her day not trying to beat the hells out of her love. She grabbed the end of the false blade, and yanked Navi in closer, having to jump into the air to give the rather tall lady a quick peck on the lips. It managed to make the dragon lady blush. Such a sudden end to their fight had her drop her sword, and just pull Roxy up into her arms. “I’m sure somebody else can clean this up for us. Let's head home, darling,” Roxy wasn’t going to argue with that. She hasn’t argued with Navi at any point - they’ve always been on the same page - and today was no different. She had her fun, and now she wants to join Navi in whatever she had planned.
The next few hours were rather simple. The food they were given by the port town where the Coalition was held was nice, especially for Navi. She loved human food. It didn’t sate her hunger like a sea monster did, but the taste was far better. Plus, she got to eat it with Roxy. Roxy would never eat a sea monster. Not only is it larger than her by tenfold, the stench is even worse for humans! By the time Navi wiped the crumbs from her lips, she found herself on the boardwalk that would take them both back home. Her fingers were interlocked with Roxy’s as they travelled across the boardwalk, the sun slowly beginning to set. Navi remembered - just then - why she did this, today. The long walks with Roxy, when she can simply fly to get there in a fraction of the time, as well as the long training session that they had today. Usually it’d be just a small part of their day, usually until the weapons would break or Navi would pull a muscle that she wouldn’t know the name of. Her human form was still completely new to her. It was meant to be for when she was in hiding, but she found that being just ‘Navi’ was enough to make her happy. Especially when with Roxy, of course. She didn’t think it was too obvious, but she was borderline obsessed with her. For a human, how could somebody be so adorable?
With the two suns finally setting, one after the other, Navi had found herself waiting by the same place she sat at when Roxy woke up. Her legs were swaying off of the boardwalk, absent-minded fish believing it to be some sort of meal, dangling just above where they could go. One bobbed up a little too closely to the realm of air, bobbing up and down as the vacant eyes of the creature surveyed the area, for anything that even remotely resembled food. When Roxy turned to look away, Navi reached down, and grabbed the fish. She was starving! Regardless, she would’ve happily eaten it as a dragon, but just as she raised it to her lips, Roxy’s head turned back to her. “Sweetie, what are you doing?” She asked, turning herself to face the dragon in disguise. “You know you can just, y’know… turn into your other form and eat a dozen of them by flying over the sea? Speaking of, you haven’t even turned into that form all day. Is everything alright?” Confusion turned to worry on Roxy’s face, going over to cup Navi’s cheek, after thwacking away the thrashing fish.
“Oh, oh sweetie. It’s nothing like that at all, I can assure you, love. It’s just-” She paused, seeing a soft illumination reflect off of her perfect skin. Navi’s lips curled to a smirk, and she gave her a quick peck on the lips.
“Stay here, for a moment. I’ll be right back. I’ll explain it in a moment,” She leaned forward, until gravity would claim her, letting her fall just inches away from the water, before bursting into her draconic form. Wings spread out, causing a powerful blast that’d cause great waves to crash against the posts holding up the boardwalk. Roxy shivered upon feeling droplets of water hit her feet, and she hopped from leg to leg, watching Thasnavi take off into the night sky. She finally caught sight of the bright lights in the sky. Seems as if dragons had better sight than humans, regardless of their form. Must be the same as with their magical breath weapons. Never mind the dragon anatomy, though it did puzzle Roxy a lot. Instead, she was fixated on what was in the sky. Bright, iridescent lights that wave along the cloudless view of space, abstract and with no direct meaning - at least to her. Thasnavi was approaching. She could tell, the soaring of the wind was getting louder and louder, until Roxy counted down from ten. It passed slowly, it always did. Her heart was pumping faster and faster at each passing moment, before she’d throw herself off of the boardwalk. Every time she got worried about falling into the sea, but as always, Thasnavi had been able to grab onto her, with her wing, and soar upwards, away from the archipelago of The Thevagon Isles.
Roxy slowly made her way up to Thasnavi’s head, gripping onto her horns for dear life as she got higher and higher. If it weren’t for the fire-breathing quality of Thasnavi, she would be shivering just now. Soon enough, the soaring came to an end, and Roxy opened her eyes, gaze met with a dazzling array of colours. “I’ve been waiting all day for this. Have you ever heard of Psyche, my dear?” Thasnavi asked, her voice much more draconic in this form. Roxy was used to it. At first she struggled with understanding what she tried to say, but now it was more like second nature.
“Can’t say I have… but, wow, that is… that’s beautiful, sweetie,” Her eyes were glued to the distinct form of a celestial butterfly slowly rising into the air, surrounded by hundreds of stars, illuminating the night sky. The mix of colours reflected off of them both, making the brass scales of Thasnavi light up in a fluorescent green hue, for the most part.
“Would you mind if I explained it to you? Why that happens, I mean,”
“By all means, go ahead! I just… I can’t believe something like that exists!” Roxy was astounded with such beauty. It had been a sight that made every hardship in her life worth it, to make it here.
“Thank you. You see, Psyche is a goddess. And a rather particular one, at that. She is heavily intertwined with that kingdom, the one she is over. You can’t see it from here, neither can I, but it’s known as Graceswift, and oh, what a beautiful place,”
“You’ve been before?”
“Just once. Long ago. But that’s a story for another time, love,” She smiled, and raised up a little higher, to match the pace of Psyche. “She’s everywhere, over there. Her scions make sure that the Fey are in a balance. I’d love to go back there, one day,”Roxy thought for a moment, before gently patting her head. “Why don’t we go there, together?” Thasnavi perked up, and laughed at the idea.
“Honey, it’s rather far away. Are you sure? Your home is here. I don’t want to take you away from your home,” The smile grew on Roxy’s face, as she rested her head on Navi’s. Psyche burst into a spring of pure mana, raining over the distant kingdom.
“Sweetie. Despite living for hundreds of years, you can be so naive. Thasnavi. You’re my home,” Thasnavi paused, and if a dragon could blush, she would be looking like a red dragon, just now. Just as Roxy said, Thasnavi found that a mere human could be her home. “I love… yoooouuuu…” The long day had seemed to tire out Roxy, who was now asleep on her back. Thasnavi gave a smile, beginning to fly towards Graceswift, eyes focused on the bright lights above all of Aitso.
“I love you too,”
