Old Tortvain City

Once the capital city to Elfar, now just an abandoned, lost kingdom. Old Tortvain City is the home to many hidden buildings, brought down by constant battles with chromatic dragons of old and the devils of the Nine Hells. Old Tortvain used to prosper, many would consider it a wondrous place to live, and many had the luck of calling it their home. When it had been taken down to the many layers of the catacombs, Old Tortvain split into two, one becoming curse-ridden by monstrosities and beasts, whilst the other would be just the castle-town as well as Tortvain's main fortification, Stronghold Serenus, haunted by the undead royal guard and the old kings to this long-forgotten settlement.

Pre-Split of Old Tortvain

Before the time of one grand city splitting in two, and before it's descent into the Underdark of Elfar, Old Tortvain was a grand spectacle for those whom have seen it. The city was home to many grand buildings, often compared to the greatest designs in history. Although this city's primary concern was it's defences. Old Tortvain would be the main focus in most wars of Elfar. Especially the White Dragons of Mount Koude. In an age old war of 960 years, elves descended of the Sun God fought against white wyrms, which nearly resulted in the freezing of Elfar and South Aitso. In the final days of this war, Mount Koude would be used by the Dragons as a last effort to defeat these elves. Fortunately for Tortvain, their efforts were thwarted by an adventuring group of old. However, the damage done had caused the city to soon sink into the ground, into the catacombs, and into depravity. After this war, the first king of Old Tortvain had gone mad, becoming a missing person for over a year, until his body was found within the summit of Mount Koude.
Upon entering the catacombs, Old Tortvain would have the unfortunate fate of splitting in two. The Citadel, and many of it's suburban regions and other monuments had sunk further into the catacombs, reaching it's bottom layer. Whereas Stronghold Serenus and it's surrounding area would be sloped towards Mount Koude . Other than this primary building, this portion of Old Tortvain is also home to a mysterious Obelisk, which had shown up after the death of the First King, unannounced. It was around this time that the First King would be brought into Stronghold Serenus, where his body still rests today.

Notable Persons

Cursed King Renn

Once the battle of Dragons was over for Old Tortvain, it's ruler, Renn had fallen into a state of insanity. Once a noble king who'd valiantly ward away beasts from his home, now entered a blinding state of rage. Donning a pale white band over his eyes, Renn would believe that he was receiving messages from Sol and his noble way of light. However, it was actually from his polluted son, Anatole. Renn would go missing for a while after his dwelling into insanity, until his corpse would be found. The King would be buried underneath Mount Koude .

Tribune Saegar

Within the Citadel of the Old Nation, there lies a skeletal being, older than even the Cursed King. Saegar is a tribunal figure of the catacombs, living in the Tribune's Fortress. Donning a flaming scythe, Saegar allows himself to be cursed with evil of this city. However, instead with this old man, he thrives with it. Saegar also formed a pact with a few powerful beings, such as Arthur Vurmil, a once-covenant soldier. Saegar would also revere the idea of sacrifice. These tributes would be done to nobody in particular, Saegar just had the pleasure of killing innocents. Although, before he could sacrifice a short goblin by the name of Loretta, he was slain by the SCP.

Curse of Maddened Lords

What many suggest to be the actual cause of this kingdom's descent, was the trickery of Sol's firstborn, Anatole, under the guise of Rory. However, at the time, the death of the First King, was blamed for this curse. This curse of Old Tortvain resided on Mount Koude , which had marked any follower of Sol to be inflicted mind-numbing madness, corrupted into evil. People inflicted with this curse would soon begin to follow Anatole, revering as a god of chaos, and storms. Anatole would use this to scale his power, as the more followers a deity may have, the stronger they get. With this advantage, along with the weakening of Sol's power, he attempted to kill the new gods.

Curse of the Formless Bones

Mainly known of in the Citadel, but also stretching out to the Obelisk of Stronghold Serenus. This curse was formed by Strezgaz, onto the heir to the current nation of Elfar, being Rowd . This curse was to become the vessel for the Bone Devil, due for the elf's Festival of Light ritual. Those who follow Strezgaz would aid the archdevil in his actions, forming cults and groups to have this occur. When the ritual began, many of the cultists died, or abandoned the new vessel of Strezgaz. This also ended up having Rowd die, in his final efforts to stop Strezgaz. Luckily, he succeeded, and the aspect of the archdevil was locked away in the 9 hells.
