Personal history
Born on one of the surrounding islands of Ascium he quickly became interested in sailing, exploring and navigating and got taken on as an apprentice on a ship. He grew in his skills and one day, for reasons he does not know, his master dropped him off on the mainland and told him to go an further his own skills - 'to navigate the shores of his own life'.
Syllar made his way to Edjudence where he set up the Edjudence's Cartographer's Guild in his flat above Rouick's Designer Candles. For years no one joined, there was no interest and soon enough the city shut itself off making mapping incredibly hard. Syllar was about to give up and move on to a more practical endeavour when Vance Nerin showed up for the final guild meeting. This convinced Syllar to carry on.
He took the new cartographer under his wing and became fast friends with him, quickly catching on that something was not quite right about him but refraining from worrying the anxious chap. He did some research in his own time and came to some rough conclusions. Conclusions that now leave him in premature mourning for the fate that may befall his friend if the city carries on as it has been.
A few years later, Syllar stumbled upon a lost and confused man in the temple district. A man who called himself Frank Francis, clearly not his real name. But Syllar did not need to know. He took him in, let him sleep in his home and introduced him to the guild which he quickly took to. Over the past couple of years Syllar has grown quite fond of the candid man.
Thanks to his unusually friends Syllar has concerns about his landlady, Ethel Rouick, and her readiness to accept the propaganda the crown is spreading. He worries what might become of himself and particularly the unusual bunch he has gathered if things take the expected route and she is not prepared to stick her neck out for them.
