The Watchers

Structure

The leader, Zonine the Watchful, believes they commune directly with Sight and pass their wishes down to the rest of the cult.   There is an organisational hierarchy so that managing members and tasks is easier. Each segment has two equal leaders above it, usually at least one is an awakened. This is so that they can keep each other in check with what Zonine the Watchful has demanded and to prevent any insurgence. The segments are as follows:
  • Covert operators; thieves, spies etc...
  • Worshippers; no specialisation just worship
  • Enforcers; guards, thugs etc...
  • Labourers; builders, errands runners, merchants etc...
  • Blessed; healers, esteemed guards, scholars etc...
  • Awakened; warlocks through a specific ritual
When Zonine the Watchful calls for it, a follower will undergo the 'Awakening'; a ritual that elevates a follower into a respected internal position in the cult. This is usually reserved for those who have done great things for the cult, or the long time followers who are getting too old to be of use in the outer world. After undergoing the 'Awakening', the follower often chooses to remain in the cult's base for the rest of their days and are privy to weighty and private information.

Culture

Its members generally wear grey cloaks trimmed with deep blue as a cult uniform.

Disbandment

The group's leader, Zonine the Watchful, was killed by the party which, as far as the party can tell, qualifies the cult as being disbanded.

Divine Origins

An aasimar claiming to be of Sight's blood founded the cult in 3133-e5, claiming they had the most authority to preach on his behalf. Many people shrugged them off but others followed and joined them developing into the underground cult that The Watchers are now. They are still lead by an aasimar of that line; it is unconfirmed if this line really originates from Sight themselves. They operate predominantly in secret yet wear their cloaks with pride, telling those that ask that it is simply a religious expression unless they are sure that they can recruit the interested party.

Tenets of Faith

  • Zonine the Watchful speaks the truth of Sight.
  • It is our responsibility to gather whatever Sight seeks.
  • It is faithful to maintain this secret of us.

Worship

The 'Awakening'

The awakening is reserved for members who have earned a special level of respect for their deeds within the cult, as well as the long time elderly members. However, the elderly members usually do not survive the ritual.   The chosen member is called by Zonine the Watchful and invited to undertake the ritual. It is seen as disgraceful to refuse and those that do, if there has been any, are never spoken of within the cult.   The first step, after accepting the ritual, is to spend a month or more (however long it takes) chronicling their life and everything they have learnt in a special book. The book has a glass casing on the spine that is important later on in the ritual. During this time the member is not allowed to speak to anyone save for Zonine the Watchful and that is only if she has reason to.   The next step is the most important. Other members are gathered to watch the ritual as the chosen member makes a warlock pact with Sight. To seal the deal the new warlock's eyes are removed by the newest awakened before them (or in some special cases, Zonine the Watchful herself) and encased in the glass casing of their book which is then sealed in the cult's 'Library of the Awakened'. Only other awakened are allowed to tend or even enter the library.   It is unclear whether this ritual originated from this cult or somewhere else as other seemingly eyeless warlock's of Sight have been seen out in the world, or perhaps they are just very adept at keeping the secret of where they came from.
