The League Of Mastery
The League can mean both the Masters that make up its core and represent it in the world, as well as the Academy where they gain their title and are granted the opportunity to utilize its vast database to further their knowledge on their chosen topic.
The League's Masters are considered the best of the best in their fields, even if this may not always be the case as some talented individuals prefer to keep to themselves and not participate in the trials to prove their prowess.
There can only be one Master of each field at a time, and a new trial for each title is held every ten years or within two years of a confirmed death of the previous Master so long as the scheduled trial is more than two years away. This two year timeframe ensures all eligible and potential new Masters get the news and a chance to prepare for the trials, and all willing settlements and/or regions have time to organize their local preliminary trials for their candidates.
Holding a title of Master grants the individuals the influence and resources of the League to take advantage of, as well as the respect of much of the "twin-island" inhabitants. They are also granted a steady income by the League allowing them to operate and move about outside of the The League Grounds and the League Headquarters with relative ease, hoaning their skills, abilities and knowledge on their area of expertise. The title is not permanent, but many Masters manage to hold on to theirs for decades at a time by simply re-entering the trials every ten years to defend their title. If a Master fails to attend a scheduled trial, they lose their title and all benefits granted by it.
All long-range communication and requests between the Masters and the League are handled by smaller local outposts, known as The Bastions, that are ran by members of The Brotherhood and relay messages to and from the League. In addition The Bastions provide the Masters their monthly salary. All Masters are expected to represent their Crystal Lotus to the Brother running The Bastion before their needs are serviced, no matter who or what they look like.
Structure
The organization follows a very simple structure, where at the lowest official level reside the Masters and above them is the Conclave of the League. The Conclave is the ruling body of the League, officially in charge of all administrative decisions concerning the League and its Masters, including all requests made by the Masters, allocation of the salaries and titles, as well as revoking of the titles. The members of the Conclave are unknown even to the Masters themselves, choosing to act from and in the shadows, much like the The League Grounds and the League Headquarters operate in general. The League also employs The Brotherhood as subcontractors, a group of deaf, blind and mute monks, who act as an extension of the will and power of the Conclave and the League outside of the League Grounds.
Public Agenda
The public agenda and purpose of the League of Mastery is the accumulation and cultivation of knowledge from a wide-range of fields. It's also to promote the respect and appreciation of those who harbor an impressive amount of knowledge.
Assets
The exact wealth and assets of the organization are unknown, as is their source of income, but so far it has proven to have seemingly endless pockets to both run the organization and pay the eligible Masters.
History
The origin of the League is shrouded in questions, for as long as there exists written history, the League has always been there. Of course nothing is known for sure of the time before Anno Minerva, but rumours and folktale claim the League Grounds were active even during the Cataclysm. These rumours have also given birth to some of the more sinister stories related to the League, but with nothing more than hearsay as evidence these are quickly becoming vastly disregarded smear stories.
Education
The Masters are able to further educate themselves using the vast libraries found both in the League HQ and Grounds, as well as several Libraries in the bigger cities. They are only granted access to the books of their chosen field however. Naturally, a healthy amount of prior knowledge is required to become a Master in the first place.
