Common Animals

The following is a description of some of the animals found commonly in the Oceans of Acrither. Though they are divided into Herbivores and Carnivores do not mistake this for friendly and unfriendly animals. The herbivores in these oceans can turn aggressive if threathened and the carnivores can be friendly if treated with the right care.  

Herbivores

Sea Urchin: Resembling a boulder on the ocean floor, the Sea Urchin is a remarkable creature with a body covered in large black spikes. It resides in tranquil stillness, feeding on various plants that grow on the ocean floor. Its unique appearance and important role in maintaining the delicate balance of marine ecosystems make it a fascinating and integral part of the underwater world.   Sea Shrimp: The Sea Shrimp is a remarkable crustacean that stands out with its impressive size. These big shrimp can be found in the ocean, displaying vibrant colors and intricate patterns on their bodies. Their agile movements and unique characteristics make them a captivating presence in the underwater realm, adding to the diversity of marine life.   Aquafern Snail: The Aquafern Snail is a graceful herbivore that inhabits the vibrant coral reefs. With its spiral-shaped shell adorned with intricate patterns and hues of vibrant colors, it is a sight to behold. This slow-moving creature delicately grazes on the algae and tiny plants that grow on the coral structures, contributing to the delicate balance of the reef ecosystem.    Coralback Turtle: The Coralback Turtle is a majestic herbivorous reptile known for its distinctive shell carrying beautiful corals. These gentle creatures gracefully glide through the ocean, feeding on seagrass and algae, which provide them with sustenance. The Coralback Turtle plays an important role in maintaining the health of the underwater meadows.   Luminfinned Manta: The Luminfinned Manta is a magnificent herbivorous ray that inhabits the sunlit shallows of the ocean. With its massive wingspan and elegant movements, it seems to glide effortlessly through the water. The Luminfinned Manta feeds on plankton and small organisms by gracefully filtering them from the water using its specialized gill rakers. Its bioluminescent markings emit a soft, ethereal glow, creating a mesmerizing display as it gracefully navigates through the depths.   Seaweed Seahorse: The Seaweed Seahorse is a fascinating herbivorous creature that perfectly camouflages itself amidst the seagrass and kelp forests. With its elongated body, curly tail, and intricate patterns, it resembles the very plants it feeds upon. This elusive creature uses its slender snout to delicately pluck algae and seagrass, sustaining itself with the nutrient-rich vegetation of the ocean floor.  

Carnivores

  Leviathan Fish: The Leviathan Fish is a captivating creature that can reach lengths of up to 10 feet. It boasts a stunning array of colors and possesses a sleek, streamlined body with a distinct, pointy nose. Its graceful movements and vibrant appearance make it a true spectacle of the underwater world.   Nereid Squid: The Nereid Squid is a mysterious and enigmatic creature. Cloaked in the darkness of the depths, this squid is as black as night and can grow up to an impressive length of 25 feet. With its long tentacles and graceful propulsion, it navigates the ocean with a silent elegance, leaving observers in awe of its size and beauty.   Kraken: The Kraken is a creature of the deep, a giant octopus that can grow up to a formidable 20 feet in size. It has been said to pose a threat to small boats venturing too far from shore, with its powerful tentacles capable of causing havoc in the open waters.   Voidfin Shark: The Voidfin Shark is a formidable carnivorous predator lurking in the depths of the ocean. It possesses a sleek and muscular body, designed for swift and powerful movements. With its jet-black skin that blends seamlessly with the darkness of its surroundings, the Voidfin Shark becomes nearly invisible to its unsuspecting prey. Equipped with rows of razor-sharp teeth and heightened senses, it is an apex predator, capable of swiftly overtaking its targets with precision and agility.   Lurkscale Barracuda: The Lurkscale Barracuda is a fearsome carnivorous fish known for its lightning-fast speed and ferocious hunting tactics. With its elongated body and silvery scales, it seamlessly blends into the shimmering waters. The Lurkscale Barracuda possesses a formidable set of sharp teeth, perfectly adapted for tearing through its prey. It patrols the reefs and rocky outcrops, lurking in the shadows, waiting for the opportune moment to strike with lightning speed, earning its name as the silent hunter of the ocean depths.  

Localized creatures

In this section I will describe some of the creatures found in the various special places of the ocean. These places can offer beautiful sights but also perilous enviroments that should be approached with caution.  

The Coral Reefs

The Coral Reefs of the ocean are beautiful sights to behold, vibrant colors on the blank depths of the sea floor. Here special animals thrive and the coral themselves can be used in a myriad of different ways. If you go I urge you to be careful, these reefs are delicate ecosystems important to the overall health of the ocean.   Reef-glow Tortoise: The Reef-glow Tortoise is a peaceful herbivore that roams the coral reefs. Its shell is adorned with bioluminescent patterns that emit a soft, soothing glow, allowing it to blend with the colorful coral formations. The Reef-glow Tortoise grazes on the lush seaweed and seagrass that grow within the reef, using its strong beak-like mouth to tear and consume the vegetation.   Coralleaf Sea Slug: The Coralleaf Sea Slug is a small, vibrant creature that glides along the coral reefs, its body covered in delicate, leaf-like appendages. It feasts on the microscopic algae that grow on the coral structures, using its specialized mouthparts to suck in and extract nutrients from the algae. The Coralleaf Sea Slug comes in an array of brilliant colors, adding a touch of elegance to the reef environment.   Reef-glide Butterflyfish: The Reef-glide Butterflyfish is a graceful herbivorous fish that dances through the coral reefs with its vibrant, fluttering fins. It sustains itself on a diet of tiny marine plants and algae, which it skillfully plucks from the reef surfaces using its slender, tubular mouth. The Reef-glide Butterflyfish is known for its intricate patterns and vivid colors, making it a true gem of the reef ecosystem.   Seaweed Grouper: The Seaweed Grouper is a large, docile herbivorous fish that resides among the coral reefs. Its mottled green and brown scales allow it to blend seamlessly with the seaweed and algae-covered rocks. The Seaweed Grouper primarily feeds on a variety of seaweed species, using its powerful jaws to tear and consume the vegetation. Its presence helps maintain the delicate balance of the reef's plant life.   Razorfin Barracuda: The Razorfin Barracuda is a sleek and agile predator that patrols the coral reefs with lightning-fast movements. With its streamlined body and sharp, fang-like teeth, it swiftly pursues smaller fish and crustaceans, using its sheer speed to catch its prey off-guard. The Razorfin Barracuda's metallic silver scales gleam in the sunlight, adding an element of danger and excitement to the reef ecosystem.   Coralwhip Octopus: The Coralwhip Octopus is a cunning and elusive carnivorous creature that blends seamlessly with the vibrant coral formations. Its skin mimics the colors and textures of the reef, providing excellent camouflage. With its flexible body and tentacles, it swiftly captures unsuspecting prey, including small fish and crustaceans. The Coralwhip Octopus is a master of disguise, using its shape-shifting abilities to seamlessly blend with its surroundings.  

The Dark Ocean

The Dark Ocean is the name of deep holes in the bottom the sea bed. These holes are dangerous places to traverse, but some people also claim that these holes are home to great treasures. Proceed at your own risk, but at least be sure to familiarize yourself with creatures that can be found in these depths.   Shadowgrazer: The shadowgrazer is a peculiar herbivorous creature that has adapted to the darkness of the Dark Ocean. With its streamlined body and bioluminescent markings, it navigates through the inky abyss in search of rare bioluminescent plants. Its elongated mouth allows it to scrape algae and other plant matter from the rocks, sustaining its diet in this desolate environment.   Abyssal Nibbler: The abyssal nibbler is a small herbivorous fish that dwells in the depths of the Dark Ocean. Its body is slender and translucent, blending with the surrounding darkness. Equipped with rows of sharp teeth, it grazes on the fragile tendrils of deep-sea plants, carefully nibbling away at their delicate structures. Its ability to extract nutrients from these limited food sources makes it a true survivor of the deep.   Shadowfin: The shadowfin is a swift and elusive predator that prowls the depths of the Dark Ocean. With its sleek body and dark, iridescent scales, it is perfectly camouflaged in the dimly lit waters. Its large, razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws enable it to capture and devour unsuspecting prey. It hunts with stealth and precision, using its keen senses and innate ability to detect even the faintest movements in the darkness.   Abyssal Viper: The abyssal viper is a fearsome carnivorous creature that lurks in the deep crevices of the Dark Ocean. Its long, serpentine body is covered in a network of bioluminescent patterns that attract unsuspecting prey. With lightning-fast strikes, it immobilizes its victims with potent venom, delivering a paralyzing bite. Its specialized jaw structure allows it to consume prey larger than itself, making it a top predator in this inhospitable realm.   Phantom Eel: The phantom eel is a nocturnal carnivore that haunts the depths of the Dark Ocean. Its slender, serpentine body is nearly invisible in the darkness, earning it its name. Equipped with rows of needle-like teeth, it is a formidable predator, capable of swiftly capturing and consuming smaller fish and crustaceans. Its undulating movements and eerie bioluminescent glow create an ethereal spectacle in the depths.   Shadowclaw Crab: The shadowclaw crab is a scavenging predator that scuttles along the ocean floor in search of carrion. Its armored exoskeleton is jet black, blending seamlessly with the darkness of the Deep Ocean. Its powerful claws can crush shells and tear apart decaying flesh, allowing it to feed on the remnants of larger marine creatures. It has adapted to the harsh conditions of the Dark Ocean, relying on its keen sense of smell to locate its next meal.
