Introduction to Actrein

You were created.
You couldn't tell who created you. You could hear their voice, but their body was cloaked in shadows, as if they didn't want you to know who they are.
They created you. They guided you into walking, fighting, interacting.
They were going to destroy you, just like the ones they created before you. But something stopped them. You don't remember what. All you can remember is landing here, in this strange yet beautiful world.
A world of magic - of seemingly limitless possibilities. There are people around you casually talking about magic. You're confused, and rightfully so. You weren't created for a world with magic in it. But what world were you created for?
It almost seems as if the very earth beneath your feet is rejecting your presence. Every once in a while you'll take a breath, only to feel as if you've suddenly been submerged underwater. And yet, you also find yourself admiring this world. The air itself seems to almost sparkle at sunset, and you could swear you saw a small chain of floating islands. Or perhaps that was your imagination?
What you don't know yet is that this world, this magnificent and terrible world, is in danger. An ancient evil that would see it in ruins and shackles is threatening to rise again, and smother its beauty in darkness and hopelessness. Just because the people here are afraid of your strangely small ears, that doesn't mean you'll stand aside and allow them to once again be slaves to the great evil... Right?
What will you do, Human Intruder?
Do you protect this world despite its rejection?
Or will you side with its enemies because of its rejection?
It's your choice. But all choices have consequences, Intruder.
