Betharium
"Fusion is fine but have you seen Betharium powered stuff? Its probably the coolest thing i have ever seen. Glows with a purple aura and supplies enough energy for a very very comfortable lifestyle. Shame we didn"t have any of the stuff on Earth. Would have saved us from the climate crisis way earlier A human colonist on Bethar, talking about BethariumThe planet Bethar is known for many things. Aside from being the very first extrasolar planet colonized by mankind, Bethar heralded the birth of a new technology, one that would provide all the energy humanity needed whilst not requiring the complex and incredibly costly measures required to set up and maintain fusion reactors. This is Betharium. A Purplish metal of volcanic origin, Betharium can be burnt or melted down in acid to produce tremendous amounts of energy. The main thing that makes it so lucrative however is that Betharium power plants are far cheaper to build and maintain, as compared to fusion reactors which take enormous amounts of resources to construct and maintain, something which is scarcely availiable to new and developing colonies Thus, Bethar flourished on the trade of Betharium and exported them all across the Milky way to human colonies that sprang up in the wake of colonization missions. With the money they earnt, Bethar developed its other industries and quickly became self sufficient and diverse in its economy, which would eventually save it when the importance of Betharium fell in the late twenty eighth century as mankinds expansion was slowed down by repeated demonic invasions Even after such consequences, Betharium trade is still an important source of revenue for the planet. It has often been called the elixir of the frontiers for its usefulness to newly set up colonies
