Crestanin Powder

"If life is going badly, then just drink some water mixed with Crestanin. Or bath in it or whatever. Just getting it in your body is a heavenly experience"   Alaric Torkanal, a native Sanguinian talking about Crestanin
After the colonists landed on the planet Sanguinus, they began practicing a pagan religion that resembled ancient celtic paganism. One of the chief ingredients in their ritual came to be a powder extracted from bacterial colonies that thrived in volcanic regions. This powder, called Cretanis powder had many medicinal properties and the people of this new religion considered it to be a holy gift from their gods. Sometimes they bath in pools that are filled with Cretanis powder. Othertimes, they eat Cretanis powder and during marriage rituals, the ones being wedded drink a solution of the powder from the same cup at the same time, to symbolize their union. They would then also kiss each other and pass on the powder to each other, which further symbolized them literally fusing their souls bodies together.   Even outside this religion, it is often used for many cultural practices and has thus gained sort of a secular side to it as well. Whenever Sanguinians embark on a journey, they mark a certain part of their body with the powder or make shapes with it, in hopes that it will protect them from the creatures of the great dark beyond. When Sanguinians go to war, they also mark themselves with it as they believe that it will protect them against their enemies and help them attain victory   In sort, this material has become a sacred one not only for the followers of that religion, but also for Sanguinians as a whole, regardless of their religion. It is thus one of the biggest symbols of their culture and identity, and features heavily in artwork, writings and other works of art of almost every medium.
