Kirunan great lakes

The Kirunan great lakes are the largest and deepest bodies of inland water on Cadmeia. Located in the northern highlands of Sidonia and being fed by glaciers from the Fjellheim mountains , this lake is truly one of the biggest, most mysterious and most beautiful sights of all of Cadmeia, which is reinforced partly by the fact that a gigantic serpentine creature has been reported to exist beneath its depths . A mysterious phenomenon about this area is however, the presence of a psychic anomaly, which at times both empowers non demonic psychics and completely drives psychics using demonic powers or demonic energy mad . The truth however, is that this psychic anomaly is a byproduct of the gigantic sentient serpent, that lurks in the depths of the lake.

Geography

The Kirunan great lakes are the largest bodies of inland water in Cadmeia, being over one million square kilometers in area. It is situated in the Fjellheim mountain range , which is also the largest mountain range in Cadmeia and contains some of the planets highest peaks. The lakes are formed from the melting of glaciers high up in the Fjellheim mountains and have their source there. Being over ten times larger than the fabled great lakes of Terra, it is truly a wonder of Cadmeia. The area has a psychic anomaly however, which is caused by a massive sentient serpentine creature lurking in the dark depths of the lake . This is however, a blessing to the inhabitants of Kiruna, as they are only disruptive to demons , demonic technology and any kind of demonic energy. The lake is frozen in winter and the early days of spring and combined with the snow covering the enitre region, it looks quite beautiful indeed.

Fauna & Flora

The lake itself is known to be one of the most biologically diverse regions on Cadmeia. Containing tens of thousands of species in the lake and hundreds of thousands on its bank and the surrounding region, it is a rich place of life indeed. From the lowly yet important Cadmeian Alpine trout to the gigantic freshwater Deviltide it has an amazing variety of flora and fauna. The more giganitc animals like the freshwater deviltide eat large amounts of alpine trout to compensate for their diets, as they are rather afraid of the potential number of prey that can defeat them. For this reason, smaller animals often form alliances with larger animals and band together for safety against the larger animals. Many of the underwater caves also serve as a place of refuge for the creatures here, providing a good breeding ground and shelter for them where they live either alone or with a partner and several of their own kind as well as their allies.

Natural Resources

The most important natural resource of this region is the lake itself . Providing the water needed for the third largest city on Cadmeia , it is the main reason the city was established alongside the need to consolidate human presence on the northern and central highlands of Cadmeia. Besides this, the region is widely renowned as the Silicon Valley of Cadmeia, producing some of the most high tech and premium equipment in the entire Federation with the resources it has been blessed with.
The rich and large amount of organisms living in this area provide it with a lot of food and has at many times, saved the city whilst other surrounding regions completely fell to the advancing demonic hordes. Many IT companies and entrepreneurs are known to start their businesses in Kiruna and so, this region contributes to a gigantic part of the Cadmeian economy. The forces of the city and the region itself offer a lot of protection to numerous small communities around the region, providing them with cutting edge services in return for providing soldiers, money and other resources to further bolster the development of the city itself.
