Seratan
[quote]"Seratan. Where the Void hangs above your very head. Where the ground is made of steel that came from that hellish realm. Seratan is more like a part of the Void than realspace, its inhabitants having eyes like demons instead of men. It is a place of opposites, where demons both love and fear to tread, the former due to the abundance of void energies they can feast on and the latter, due to the people who inhabit it"
An excerpt from a travel guide about the city/quote]
Seratan is the capital of the planet Sanguinus. Situated near a large lake high in the Ashfall Mountains, the city is widely known as being the place where Sanguinium was first discovered. The resource brought on a new age of spaceflight technology, as its void energy conducting capabilities allowed for far easier ftl travel than was ever possible before with the crude void drives used by the first ftl spacecraft
The city is located close a giant reservoir of the material and despite having diversified heavily, the sale of Sanguinium and related products as well as the Void technology industry are an immense source of revenue for the city. Its gigantic spaceport and central location in the Vintaran Megalopolis has also helped in developing its wealth. The buildings are a unique mixture of ancient celtic structures and modern art, and embody the culture of the native Sanguinians who are descended from immigrants from the nations of Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Brittany on old earth
Despite Sanguinians being the major ethnic group, the city is also diverse and is known for its large Cadmeian minority. The Cadmeians and Sanguinians have had a longstanding rivalry which is friendly but intense. The Cadmeians have been known to work more in the mining and industrial sectors in the present day, whilst Sanguinians work more in administration and services. As such, there is a common stereotyping that Cadmeians are brutish and know only how to swing pickaxes whilst Sanguinians are multiskilled. Despite such jokes being common, the two communities alongside other groups live in harmony, sharing a pride in their common goal for humanity
