Avatar

The gods rarely interact directly with the world. One of the few ways that they do is that they choose a mortal that is worthy. They imbue them with their power, making them their representation.

Requirements

Currently five gods have chosen Avatars, though it is unclear what the exact requirements are to become one. It is assumed that the gods choose an individual as their avatar for their virtues and their accomplishments. An example is Drogo Thunka , who was elevated by Raxus after he emerged victorious at the Battle of the Red Plains. The ascension of the other Avatars has been lost to time, and they do not explain when or why they were chosen by their respective gods..

Duties

A human cannot hope to act as gods, neither in potential, nor in their beliefs. Even those chosen by the gods do not pretend to fully grasp the morals of their god, and with that their divinity. Instead Avatars aspire to understand their god and it is their duty to put their god's moral truth forth in the world, at least to the best of their ability.

Benefits

An avatar’s life is directly linked to their deity. As long as the god shields them death is no hindrance for an avatar. It may take a while, but they will soon return from beyond the veil. Furthermore, age cannot hold them back. Each avatar is blessed with an unwavering mind and an immeasurably strong form.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Show spoiler
The only god that has ever lost their position as avatar was Akkarin Ladon, who lost the position as his goddess, Nyx removed herself from the world.

Cultural Significance

The avatars, which refer to each other as siblings, are a cornerstone for many societies. Their cultures develop with a strong leaning towards the god’s tenants and see other cultures as less refined. An expectation is other cultures that also contain an Avatar. These are generally seen almost as misguided brothers.
