Dragonborn

Proud and Noble creatures, Dragonborn are a race that is said to be genetically engineered in some way by Dragons, carrying a lot of their traits - and most even following suit even moreso in regards to their draconic bloodline.   Originally held as slaves by Dragons, Dragonborn escaped from their thrall in droves, with some ancient family lines swearing vengeance against the winged creatures that dared clasp them in chains.   Most Dragonborn in this day and age, however, have lost this undying rage towards Dragons, and while there is still plenty animosity between the two races, Dragonborn have long since turned their eyes elsewhere, pursuing other more personal ends.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn have very humanoid physiques that more often than not are further bolstered by the immense amount of dragon blood within them - giving them scales upon their skin and enlarged muscles even if a particular dragonborn in question doesn't excercise much. Many have described their appearance as monstrous, but much like some of the other monstrous races, a lot of civilized kind have gotten over it after prolonged exposure.   Their hearts, however, are known to also be engorged - luckily having more room to fit because of their larger-than-normal frames, and those same hearts are usually teeming with the elemental energy that the dragonborn's bloodline allows. A Gold Dragonborn's heart is said to be lightly covered in embers, which assists greatly in that dragonborn's resistance to flames - he literally holds them within his heart at all times.   This energy is said to shoot out from the heart and straight into their throat when they conjure their dragonbreath - which is why they can only do it a small amount compared to a large dragon, their hearts can only pump out so much.

Biological Traits

There is a particular malady that all Dragonborn suffer in particular called Dragon Rage.

Dragon Rage

Dragon Rage is more or less a genetic defect, with some scholars assuming was purposely placed by the Dragons who created Dragonborn, that afflicts just about every last Dragonborn.   While it remains dormant a majority of the time, with some peaceful living Dragonborn never suffering it in their entire lives, it seems to bubble up within Dragonborn whenever they find themselves in a stressful, dangerous, and combative environment.   The particular triggers that will begin the process of a Dragonborn falling to their rage will differ slightly from Dragonborn to Dragonborn, some feel it during the heat of battle, others begin feeling it when just.. angered enough in a conversation that the Dragonborn finds important to them.   And similarly, the way Dragon Rage affects a particular Dragonborn will also vary - though scholars have discovered in the last few decades that the way a Dragonborn is affected by their rage is heavily dependent on their bloodline. A Golden Dragonborn suffering from their Dragon Rage will become haughty and consumed entirely by pride, while a Red Dragonborn will also become haughty, but with the fury of a conqueror, seeking subjugation rather than absolute rule. To this end, if one researches how a particular Dragon acts, then it is likely (though not guaranteed), that Dragonborn with that bloodline will act similarly while suffering from their rage.   This is part of the reason why scholars believe the Dragon Rage to be purposefully embedded into the Dragonborn by their Draconic creators - a failsafe that will consume a Dragonborn's defiance and turn them into extensions of their draconic ancestry's will.   There is currently no known way of alleviating symptoms of Dragon Rage, as it affects Dragonborn in various ways. A careful understanding of the person afflicted may help snap them out of it, but nothing is guaranteed.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn reproduce in the usual manner, though rather than carrying the child within themselves for 9 or so months, they instead lay a fairly large egg, patterned in certain ways dependent on the draconic bloodline present - with defects and unique patterns being seen as terrible omens rather than any sort of unique thing to be proud of - Dragon blood runs hot, so something powerful enough to be able to affect a source already vehemently powerful on its own is.. a cause for concern.   The eggs themselves can survive in harsh conditions no matter their type, but not in extreme conditions opposite of their element - a white dragonborn egg thrown into lava will probably not survive, but a red dragonborn egg very well may. The egg will also emit a small aura of their draconic bloodline's respective element. A red dragonborn egg will be warm to the touch, gradually getting hotter as the baby reaches maturation, while a black dragonborn egg will be humid, and irritating to the touch, only getting worse to the point of burning when the baby is soon to be born. These traits do not remain after the child is born, a red dragonborn eggshell will lose its heat, etc. Many dragonborn keep fragments of their shell as keepsakes.   Dragonborn hatch on their own from their eggs (unique or otherwise) after 9 months, using their usually sharp noses to crack the shell like most egg-based births, and usually spend their first day in the world "cooling off" (or heating up in the case of cold-bloodlines) from the "aura" their egg had given off.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Dragonborn at birth is roughly the same size as a normal Human baby, they of course have their scales and other physical quirks of draconic nature, but they are capable of walking within hours of being born.   By early childhood a Dragonborn differs from a normal human. They mature at rapid rates, their physiques beginning to fill out, their minds developing. By the time they are 3, they are as physically and mentally developed as a 10 year old human, and by their adolesence years they are capable of using their dragonbreath in a small way. Their maturation slows down a slight amount as they reach their teenaged years, but never ever matches with humans.   A Dragonborn reaches full physical maturation at age 15, rather than 18 for most other contemporary races. Filling out to their full frame earlier on, Dragonborn are commonly treated as full blown adults earlier too, with no one batting an eye when a 15 year old Dragonborn signs up to join the military of their country, or going out to adventure at their young age.   To that end, Dragonborn live roughly the same amount of years as a Human, or perhaps a decade or two more. Of course as with everything, it varies, some Dragonborn live to be about 80, but a Dragonborn living to 110 isn't the most impossible.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Being quite Carnivorous, Dragonborn enjoy hearty meaty meals, though they are truly Omnivorous, their diet can compose anything without too much difficulty.   When growing up though, a growing Dragonborn is going to want meat pretty exclusively, needing massive amounts of protein to help fill them out. Dragonborn families usually understand this and oblige, but it's common for adopted Dragonborn to be told to eat their greens.   This doesn't hinder their growth at all, as long as they eat their fill, but they are rarely satisfied by anything but meat from ages 12-16.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Average in most aspects, Dragonborn are usually unremarkable when it comes to their senses, save for rare cases with one.   Some Dragonborn have expressed an ability to see fairly well in darkness. This is not a universal trait, and almost seems to be some sort of mutation that sometimes occurs with certain draconic family lines.
