The Holy Order of the Supernal Topaz Defenders

Aberrations mass in the twisted depths of the earth or in the distant void between the stars. Secretly, they plot and plan. Their attacks come suddenly and leave few witnesses. They slink back to the dark corners of the multiverse, hoping to remain unseen. Unfortunately for them, the Holy Order of the Supernal Topaz Defenders (or the Topaz Order, for short) is watching. At the slightest signs of stirring, their crusade begins, cleansing the world of the aberrant taint, before most of the world even knew it was there.
The Defenders are particularly interested in freeing those enslaved by aberration mindcontrol. The powers of Mind Flayers, Aboleths, and neogi are particularly threatening, and those beings always receive top priority when the signs of their presence manifest. When not preventing these incursions, the Topaz Order focuses on subtler or less existential threats - beholders, slaadi, grell, and others.
Vigilance and secrecy are the watchwords for the Topaz Order, and they are often the first group of people to notice something amiss. They act quickly, putting together a strike team from their allies, including The Circle of the True and The Keepers of the Cerulean Sign . They also look for adventurers from other walks of life who might be available for the delve and may even accept some questionable allies in the interest of fighting the greater evil.

Canaries in The Coalmine

The Topaz Order takes its defense of the world and its people very seriously and has several active ways to determine when the next threat will rear its head. Magical divination, physical expeditions, and their network of spies and agents mean that the Order responds quickly to these threats. It is common knowledge in the Order that they're often also the first to die to these assaults. The list of martyrs from the Topaz Order is long, and most expect to fall in the service of their divine goal someday. Structure of The Topaz Order
Though it is run by paladins of Torm , the Order accepts knights of all stripes, as long as their courage is great, and their wrath is strong. Entry-level members of the Topaz Order refer to each other as Brother or Sister.

The Sunwardens

Sunwardens are the paladins of the Topaz Order. They are active campaigners against the machinations of the Far Realm. They are perhaps the most iconic heroes of the Topaz Order and are also the most public. In fact, they are relatively well known as an agnostic sect of knights thought to serve the ideal of Order and righteousness, this notoriety gives them certain freedoms that the rest of the Order cannot enjoy because of its secret nature. It also makes them the most exposed to any threats seeking to neutralize the Order. From the ranks of the Sunwardens arise the Paragons, who lead individual chapter houses.

The Investigators

However, the bulk of the Topaz Order exists behind the scenes. Sleeper agents, operatives, and investigators work undercover to root out aberrations and the cults that worship them wherever they are found. The Investigators are agents on the front line, often risking their lives to infiltrate cults and bring back information about the schemes of the worshipers of the Great Old Ones.
The Examiners are a special rank given to Investigators of a higher caliber who are empowered with the authority of the Order to bring force to bear on the enemies of sanity wherever they are found. The most distinctive marker of the Examiners are the magical Topaz Rings that they wear. The golden yellow topaz signifies light, and the Examiners are meant to bear it into the dark corners of the multiverse.
