The Red Fox

No one knows their name, no one knows their face, yet they can claim fame, for they are the Red Fox!

The Red Fox is a person....or has been many people depending what you believe. It is the code name for one of the most successful intelligence operatives of the last two centuries, operating in Suranth. They are believed to be responsible for smuggling out the plans of the Gotlbrand Engine, and many other steam based technologies and getting them into the hands of the Wastonian Government.

No one truly is sure who the Red Fox actually is. Many suspect a gnome, which narrows down the suspects of course, and yet there is no real way to find out and no evidence to back these claims at all.

Klick Chromebeard chuckled as he unfolded his morning paper, dropping two silvers into the young lad's hands whom was selling em on his street corner. The headline was drastic and emboldening. "The Red Fox strikes again, as another gap in national security is exposed!" The story of course was no less sensationalized, a tale of how prototype blueprints for the hybrid sky-skimmer ships were stolen. Ships that could sail or sky-sail, were of course not a wild concept to the Wastonian government, in fact, the truth of the matter is the prototype that Suranth had developed was, ironically, developed by Klick himself, with permission from his homeland's government. The two nations, though half a globe apart, were trade rivals and rival technological nations it was true. But the two governments and scientific communities respected each other enough to keep things on ice, mostly in the world of espionage and war of words territories, not willing to engage in wars or proxy conflicts with allies, knowing such activities could spiral. They also respected each other enough to spy on each other, but to also utilize each other, to slip each other information or ideas, to see what their think tanks came up with. It was all very clandestine and spy like to the public, and occassionally someone would be picked up and arrested for show. But both nations, at a governmental level, knew the intricate game being played and knew that the 'spying' was a two way benefit in many cases, bringing in valuable information as often as taking any out. High King Azulron, bless him, knew who Klick was, but understood the sort of game being played on the field of foreign affairs, so he allowed the myth of the Red Fox to continue. Klick once again found himself chuckling, only able to imagine that his dwarven counterpart living in Rydan, the capital of his homeland, likely found similar humor in the situation.
