Oracles of Terlataníanus

The Oracles of Terlataníanus are an order of priests inhabiting a small stilt-house village in the marshy delta of the river Helkan in northern Nemirkía. Terlataníanus is an obscure nemirkían god of freshwater and prophecy, depicted as a swan.
The priests spend most of their time out in the marshes, meditating and listening to the different calls of the birds who inhabit the area in order to predict the future. They avoid eating the flesh and eggs of birds, instead subsisting on a modest diet of fish, frogs and mushrooms.
New initiates come from nearby villages, either by their own calling or sent by families as an act of piety, and while they are allowed to leave the order after a certain number of years, few ever do. The villagers also provide the priests with simple linen tunics and other basic necessities.
Chiefs, kings and emperors have made pilgrimages to the oracles for millennia in search of answers for serious dilemmas, and its become a tradition within the Sikíron Empire for rulers to visit them each year. One of the oracles may leave the village to meet up with those who are destined for greatness to inform them of their importance, but this happens extremely rarely. When on such journeys, they are identified by a leather cap adorned with feathers.
