Shattered Moon
In the Days of Peace (the several centuries after Cir founded Melavic, during which there was peace under his rule) there was a man who wanted to be a god. He was jealous of Cir and thought that he could do better, but he was tainted with a dark power. Seeking mastery over magic, he looked to the Undying for aid. With dark rituals and pacts he gained their aid, becoming their agent upon the earth, and he made war against Cir. It was a long war, one in which Leotheric, with the evil powers of the Undying, was able to conquer most of what is now called Cireth. Finally, in the Second Battle of Melavik, Leotheric fought Cir. They say that Cir gave him nine chances to surrender and repent and that nine times Leotheric pretended to accept, taking advantage of Cir's dropped guard to land blows that would have been fatal for a mortal man. But Cir was no mortal. After the ninth betrayal, Cir struck Leotheric down. With Leotheric defeated, his armies lost hope and fled. Cir led the Law Bringers and his own armies to chase them down, taking Leotheric's territories for himself, and founding the Sovereign Domain of Cireth.First formed when the souls of the The Council of Stars were rent in two by Lightdrinker at the hands of Cir, the Undying are the eternal enemies of Cir. Their enmity with Cir does not make the Undying enemies to the other gods necessarily. It is well known that Bolgarung and Yansthu have long worked together to preserve their forest. In truth, the Undying are believed to have been a major religion before the War of Eternal Twilight and the founding of Sovereign Domain of Cireth. Since then, nearly all knowledge of the Undying has been lost to time. Their existence remembered only in tales of the vicious monsters that dared revolt against Cir. To this day, the story of Leotheric the Fool is told throughout Cirethian temples as a warning to possible dissidents. Despite the Cirethian assertion that Leotheric and the Undying were purely mortal, unbiased historians will note that these powerful individuals did, in fact, have a variety of religious followings throughout history. Since the founding of Cireth in 1 AS these religions have been incredibly difficult to find, but there is evidence of small cults or offshoot religions serving both Leotheric and the Undying, even today.
The Shattered
Followers of Leotheric or the Undying call themselves the Shattered. Though they claim to look to the night sky for guidance, their star maps are completely unusable when compared to the night sky. It is believed that the Shattered view the Undying in much the same way as others view the Council of Stars, with Leotheric at their head.
