Changelings

Changelings are a bit of an oddity within the world of Aedir. They are cursed beings, cursed to be bland. They were once beautiful people who were cursed by Zylo in an attempt to humble and knock them down a couple of notches. As such, changelings now roam the land, with bland looks and cursed to never understand the concept of beauty. They are much like Kenku, or those who were cursed to never speak their own voice. They are of the same coin, people who were disadvantaged in society. But, Changelings' innate ability to change their appearance at will can lead to interesting scenarios that can benefit their people in many ways.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Changelings are born to look as nondescript as possible in their base form. As such, they have a weird sense of anatomy. Depending on the Hag Clan they were created at, their physique will be slightly different. The Lilac's are known to be stronger, while the Sunflower are known to be more nondescript and plain, while the Rose are quick and lithe. Their looks do change slightly, they have faint and subtle color changes depending on their clan. Lilacs are purple, Dandelions are yellow and Roses are red.

Genetics and Reproduction

Changelings in fact cannot breed and have children, instead, all reproductive organs are just skin in this case. Anytime a baby is born it comes directly from the Hag Mother that the clan originates from.

Growth Rate & Stages

Changelings have no growth rate. When they are created by their Hag Mothers, they come out as a normal adult as if they were molded from clay.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Changeling social structure is highly based on the Clan and their Hag Mothers. Changelings are beholden to their Hag Mothers as their creators, but there is a sense of tension between the two parties, as the Hag Mothers rule with iron fists, but are also caring to their changelings. They want them to better themselves, but much like tight knit families, betraying the Hag Mother is unacceptable.   The three Hag Mothers are as follows:
  1. The Lilac Mother
  2. The Rose Mother
  3. The Sunflower Mother

Facial characteristics

Changelings are cursed with being nondescript and plain. One thing to note about changelings in their guises is that since they can't master perfect human emotions or inflections, from time to time their eye might become a lazy eye, or they might laugh in inappropriate scenarios. For someone that is aware, these are easy triggers that someone is a Changeling.

Average Intelligence

Of the three Clans, the Sunflower are created to be the strongest.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Changeling naming traditions are very common, as there is no concept of gender within the Changeling people. Changeling names are notable in that in their base form they only consist of 1 syllable naming schemes that can easily be inserted into other names in their guises. For example:   Ryr, Mer, Rem, Dor, Alv.

Gender Ideals

There is no concept of Gender within the Changeling people. As they aren't born with male or female reproductive organs, the idea of gender, sex are foreign to them.

History

The three Hag Mothers were originally followers of Zylo who went a little too far in their forbidden sciences. They were cursed to become Hags and curse those around them. While they were given large amounts of power, it was at the cost of their sanity. The three Hag Mothers created a Coven known as The Dumont Coven and each settled down in the cities of Alverholdt (Sunflower), Doorinholdt (Lilac), and Lewinholdt (Rose). Each of the Hags went underground as the destinations began with populations of Changelings there. Quickly a country formed and now the Kingdom of Dumont exists where the Hag Mothers first settled.   As of late however, the three Hag Mothers have disagreed on several things like the trajectory of their people and their creations. This has led to a civil war of sorts, where the three Clans of Changelings do minor acts of subterfuge in an attempt to become the top dog. With the Lilacs as the Warriors, the Sunflower as the main Wizards and the Rose as the main thieves. The three have been locked in a Cold War for decades. It's unsure if the three clans will ever reconcile...
