Varich
The city of Varich is the Eastern-most Settlement on the major landmass on the Western side of the Veilnum Archipelago. Due to it's isolated location within the Rivena Forest, it has developed a unique level of autonomy akin to a Hidden Village. The Archdruid of the city, "Arch-Boss" Druyva is known for being a prominent mafia boss and known as "The Untouchable" for both his secretive nature and his Untouchable status within the city.
The City of Varich is known primarily for it's lucrative Underworld. People from all walks of life attempt to make their way to Varich to find riches through bloodied coins, smuggling, or trying to make a decent living capturing the various gangs and cults that riddle the Underwine.
Demographics
The Demographic make up of Varich is the following:
- Elves, Kalashtar and Owlin make up a majority of the populations. Kalashtar are found within the Dreamwood Autonomous Zone and Owlin can be found within the Whitewood Druid Zone.
- A mix of other races can be found, which lead to it's unique melting pot of cultures. Although not mentioned, there is a small colony of Tortles found within the Dreamwood Autonomous Zone. The Tortles here are unique in the way that their shells are fashioned out of Ironwood Pine cones which litter the Dreamwood. These shells are then empowered with the magic of the Dream Realm.
Government
Varich is ran by multiple Mafia Houses known as the Big Honchos that are at relative peace with one another. Although gang and turf wars most certainly happen, the gangs keep the balance of power within the city. Allowing a power vacuum to form is one of the worst things imaginable to the local mob bosses. This is even to the extent where they form their own collective police force called the Pinkertons wielding Ironwood Batons to deal with those that try to cause trouble.
Within the Underwine, however, it's free game. The head honcho of Varich is Archdruid Druyva. He's a large Goliath man that is strong enough to fight multiple at a time. Despite having the title of Archdruid, he much rather prefers the title of "Arch-Boss" or "The Untouchable". He is a cocky individual, but he's gotten this far due to his clever mind and wit that allows him to outsmart most people in economical warfare. The other Mob Bosses are terrified of him, because in an instant he can acquire their gang through blood or bloodied coin regardless.
The city hangs in his balance. Truthfully, he'll never pull the trigger, as he loves a good competition.
Infrastructure
Despite being located within the Druidic Empire of the Pine, looking at Varich, you wouldn't get that impression from the city. It's a large and bustling town with factories covering the coastline. Druvya has incorporated the Druidic building style with the industry of cities like Alverholdt or Doorinholdt.
This is also the site where Ironwood and their pine cones are harvested and turned into Ironwood Armor and weaponry. Known for being just as, if not sharper than metallic weaponry, Ironwood is perfect for those of the Pine who refuse to use metal.
Districts
There are multiple districts that reside within Varich, most of them serving as a place ruled by another Mob Boss. Archdruid Druyva's location is unknown as he intends to meet people on his terms, not theirs.
Dreamwood Autonomous Zone
Here in the Dreamwood Autonomous Zone is a stretch of forest where the power of the Dream Realm seeps out into the forest, creating a patch of elegant purple trees and pleasant dreams when slept under. Rather than stealing memories like the original forest has, this one reinforces them and gives you visions of (sometimes false) grandeur. This area is protected by a group of Kalashtar that are desperately trying to get back to the Dream Realm. However, they are stuck here for the time being. Also known for being here is a small enclave of Tortles, who fashion their shells out of Ironwood from the Dreamwood. This is where the Swordfish Family reside. The owner of the Dreamwood Autonomous Zone is Bveru Dorimina (F Kalashtar), known for being a kind and fair owner, but has become disillusioned with visions of... the Dream?Old Palace Entertainment District
The Old Palace Entertainment District is where the old Palace was once held. Legend has it, a T'Chai build the residence with his own hands, but during the Seasonal Wars, an Elven tyrant took over the castle and claimed it as their own. However, as Varich formed, the Elven tyrant was ousted and the palace fell to ruin. Recently, the Old Palace district has become a marketplace within the city of Varich, due to it's unique location at the center of the city. The area is owned by Patron of the Void (F Rifted Elf), who was an Elf that was recently infected by the Void attack in Varich. The Swerving Stones
A set of swerving cobblestone streets where a lot of the people of Varich live. This area is owned by Tee Nook (M Ratfolk), who is known for cutting through the housing market by making houses dirt cheap, but keeps their residents kept under contract through hiding loopholes in writing. Because of this economic chess that Nook has mastered, he is considered one of the Big Honchos. The Swordfish Marina
A Marina owned by a family of Mariners called The Swordfish Family, a group of Tortles from the Dreamwood. They are extremely proficient with tridents, which they have fashioned into their shells to capture fish. This is where all of the naval traffic comes in and out of the city, making the Swordfish family one of the Big Honchos. The area is owned by a Tortle Pirate named Tortuga (F Tortle). She was an incredibly renown pirate that ventured with the "Pirate Legend" Garvus Irestone. The Underwine
The Underwine is a stretch of land that exists under the city of Varich, where true villainy lies. Here lies the more evil cultists and mob gangs that want nothing more than chaos. For example, the New Blood's Earth cult, which is desperately searching for a source of knowledge that is said to be within the city. Death here is incredibly common, and not even any of the Big Honchos head down into the Underwine. The way to get into the Underwine is through the abandoned Palace at the center of the city. This Palace is the remnant of a long-forgotten state from Pre-History. Most knowledge of it is lost to time.Whitewood Druid Zone
The Whitewood Druid Zone is where the Avian folk live. This is from their massive spruce trees which the Owlin and their small bodies can live within and mold with their druidic capabilities. This Zone is led by the the Rustuft Family, a group of Owlin known for their rust-colored feathers. Because of their Drudiic capabilities, they are considered one of the Big Honchos.Assets
One of the biggest thing that circulates throughout the city is coin. Through deals, taking it by force, or transfer of goods, money flows in, out and throughout the city hundreds of times in a given day. Other than money, Ironwood weaponry is created in Varich to help supply its own guard force, and even exports the Ironwood to other place within the Rivena Forest.
Guilds and Factions
Within the city, most of the factions that find themselves in the city of Varich are apart of the various mob houses from the Big Honchos. These families act as the leaders of the city and try to keep the peace amongst themselves as peace hangs in the balance in Varich.
Architecture
The architecture of Varich is a mix between laid brick buildings, and then the Druidic styles that makes up normal Pine settlements like in Ertin. This unique style of architecture is because of the amount of people that come into the city and decide to stay.
