The Shadowscales
The Shadowscales are an organization dedicated to protecting Arush Vayem through covert means. Their agents have ears and eyes everywhere and are usually aware of a threat long before it arrives, having already concocted a plan to thwart it. The organization is an open secret amongst the Drakani of Arush Vayem, though outsiders are unaware of the full scope of Shadowscale operations and membership. The group also serves as the cities' secret police and enforcers of the Drakani Council's will. Members of the organization paint their scales completely black and wear featureless metal masks in order to obscure their identities while operating in the field.
Throughout the organization's long and storied history, it has accomplished many near impossible feats that has given the Shadowscales a fearsome reputation amongst the enemies of the Drakani people. The most famous of these accomplishments include the assassination of Empress Toryn and the trapping of Crusader armies within Arush Altok and the subsequent self-destruction of the city in order to cover the retreat of Drakani leadership into the Wyrmback Mountains.
Structure
The Shadowscales tend to operate in small independent cells in order to minimize the effects of a security breach or a leaking of the identity of its members. The cell leaders recieve their mandates in the form of anonymous directives from the leaders of Arush Vayem.
Culture
Due to its rather decentralized nature, each cell of the Shadowscales has a different culture and practices though these can never compromise the integrity of the organization as a whole or the mission itself. Shadowscale operatives are expected to never divulge the true nature of their work, especially to those outside of their immediate family. Many Shadowscale agents develop incredibly close bonds with those in their cell and most Shadowscale cells stay together throughout their service.
