Aelcantar

The new world, known to scholars as Aelcantar was discovered just over one hundred years ago by explorers sailing north in an effort to prove that the world ends beyond the oceans. It is a continent ravaged by ancient magic, the slowly fading remnants of some cataclysmic event in the distant past that twists and corrupts the wildlife in the inland regions of the continent to this day. Nomadic tribes roam along the safer coastlines, steadily pushed out by the growing colonies and city states of the old world as each nation and species race to put their own mark on this unexplored land, or simply flee the strict rule of monarchies and empires of the old world in search of liberty and freedom.   The riches of this continent are many and diverse. Dotting the landscape are ancient ruins and monuments of a long gone civilization, places of untold danger and filled with treasures, troves of knowledge and powerful artifacts just waiting for someone to brave the twisted, monstrous guardians to claim the riches within. These ruins and dungeons have sparked a golden age of adventurers who flock to this new continent with gusto, most dying horrible deaths in the process but the ones who emerge as famous heroes, rich beyond compare just spur on the next waves of bright-eyed fools seeking their own glorious adventure.
