Tower of the Sky
After The Great Fall, the refugees fleeing the interior of the Ma'urwol continent brought with them stories of a great, lone mountain that had arisen at the center of the inner lands of the continent. It was told that the mountain touched the sky itself.
Adventuring groups that have dared venture into the interior and managed to return have told that the mountain could be seen from almost anywhere they traveled once they had passed the border mountains. Among their tales, they said that they could travel for days, or even weeks, in a given direction and the mountain barely moved on the horizon.
Scholars collecting their descriptions have long debated the true height of the mountain, but the most commonly accepted estimate is that the mountain peak is a little more than 8000 meters in height above sea level.
Over the years since The Great Fall, several expeditions have been mounted to try and reach the mountain and survey it. Few of the expeditions were ever heard from again. Only one is known to have reached within 50 kilometers of the base of the mountain before they were forced to turn back after facing several nights of constant attacks from unknown creatures.
The last expedition to try and venture towards the mountain was 5 years ago in 1000 AGF. An expedition more than 200 strong, consisting of scholars, adventurers, soldiers and heroes was launched by the king of Talaras to try the approach from the west. They were never heard from again. For the last two years the king has sought for a band of brave adventurers to try and find out what happened to the expedition. Thus far, no one has accepted the quest.
