Aellorah

Description

Aellorah is a strange world inhabited by seven races, children of the Seven Sisters, the goddesses of this world.

The world is also home to seven Wellsprings, fountains of magical energy that occasionally erupt like a volcano, spewing forth magical energy that can change or devastate the world around them.

It is a world of magic, where those who can wield it are rare, but respected, rather than feared, as magic is the origin of all that exists.

Geography

Aellorah is roughly half the size of Earth, a world that consists of four main continents and numerous small islands.

The continents are Gothir, Myr, Reshyk, and Arak.

Aellorah is covered by a large amount of ocean water and has one unique ocean known as the Stillsea, which despite being connected to other bodies of water, the Stillsea waters are completely still, and no waves are ever seen in it. There is also the Whispering Abyss, home to an anomaly so unnerving that no trade route comes within 50 miles of it.

Aellorah has three moons known as Quen, Umos, and Lekaris. Each moon is named for a celestial deity of Aellorah. Aellorah has a single sun, and a 28 hour day. The solar system containing Aellorah is also home to three other planets, at least one of which is inhabited. There are no stars in Aellorah's sky -- only the Sun and Aellorah's three moons. The Seven Sisters plan to one day create new life on the other planets of Aellorah's solar system. The one other inhabited planet in its system is Proxon.

Geology

Aellorah has a 7 month year, with each month being 49 days long, consisting of 7 weeks of 7 days. Aellorah is known for mild Summers and harsh Winters. Myr is untouched by the seasons as a result of the Eternal Spring anomaly. The long Winters are a result of the three moons and the axis of rotation Aellorah is on.

Aellorah has several common natural disasters, but many of them are far from the inhabited regions of the world. Most of these disasters are a result of the eruptions of Wellsprings -- sources of magical energy that occasionally erupt like a volcano, decimating the surrounding areas with arcane energy and sometimes causing unpredictable magical anomalies around the world.

The citizens of Aellorah have not advanced far enough to get a scientific estimate of the age of Aellorah, but scholars who have studied the various deities of the world suggest it is roughly 30,000 years old. The intelligent races of Aellorah have only existed for roughly 20,000 years, though they did not all come into being at once.

Ecology

Aellorah is home to seven intelligent races, known as the Children of Aellorah, including:

Additionally, two distinct races not part of the Seven Sisters' original design have emerged in recent times due to Wellspring eruptions:

There are also countless monster races and factions spread throughout the land. Some of the most common monsters civilized society must contend with are the Fel Orcs. The Fel Orcs have a large foothold on Gothir, making it very dangerous to live there. Humans are not the most populous race in Aellorah -- rather, that would be the Elves and Dwarves. This is because a plague ravaged the Human population around 300 years ago, and it has taken a long time for the Human population to recover. The Grave Rot Plague Rot plague, as it was called, only affects Humans, and has all but vanished, and the remaining Human population is now mostly immune to its effects.

There are no half-Human hybrid races on Aellorah because the races of Aellorah are not genetically compatible and cannot cross-breed. That does not mean they don't have sexual encounters for pleasure or relationships, though many Elves and Dwarves look down upon Humans and find the idea of mating with them revolting, akin to lying with animals. Humans are not necessarily "second class citizens", though some Elves and Dwarves, which make up the majority of the population of Aellorah, are not friendly to Humans and exclude them from certain social activities.
