Ars Aurum Academy
The Ars Aurum Academy is a college located in the city of Mythwell in the Taungar Valley region of Arak that is operated by the Sorcerer's Cabal. The Academy is home to many of the greatest magical minds of Aellorah, and teaches fledgling sorcerers and wizards to harness their abilities, or learn new ones. The academy is split into seven different wings. The uninformed believe this is in reference to the Seven Sisters, but in reality, it is referring to the seven schools of magic taught at the academy. Due to Enchantment magic being highly illegal, and punishable by death in Arak, only the other seven schools are taught here.
The school was established circa 8,186 AC, when the city of Mythwell was still very young, and did not reach its grandiose size until about 1,800 years later. It was founded by an Elven man named Laethan Tassarion, one of the earliest Archmages of the Sorcerer's Cabal. The city grew around the academy over the years and its applicants grew with the city size. Nearly 15% of Mythwell's residents are students at the academy.
The school has a hierarchal organization, with each arcane school falling under the responsibility of the Archmage himself. Each arcane school is operated by a master of that school of magic, known as a Kembax, which in the Aurum language, translates to "high person", referring to their elevated status. Each Kembax has numerous faculty working beneath them to teach the academy's numerous students.
Each wing has their own particular quirks associated with that school's specialty. The evocation wing is warded against elemental magic to prevent the students from accidentally blowing themselves up or burning down the library. The conjuration wing is warded to prevent students from summoning any potentially harmful creatures outside of special training rooms called Flow Vaults. The necromancy wing prevents students from animating anything more dangerous than a zombie or skeleton outside of the Flow Vaults. And so on...
Flow Vaults are one of the school's most unique and useful features. They are special doors found throughout the academy that lead to a pocket dimension that gives students a wide open space to practice in without running the risk of harming other students. The vaults limit the level of magic that apprentices are able to cast within them, though this is not due to a particular safeguard, but due to the amount of Flow that can be contained within the pocket dimension. If you were to attempt to cast a spell above the 6th level, it would simple fizzle due to a lack of Flow reserves in the room. There are special command words that students can use in the room to show or hide the exit door so they don't destroy it and trap themselves in there (which has happened a few times in the academy's history, leaving the students unfortunately stranded in the pocket dimension to die). There are also command words for creating various illusory objects that the students can use for target practice.
