Moonstone

Moonstone is a special type of opal found on mountaintops that emits a glow comparable to a torch during the night, or in dark places. Their light can be enhanced magically, but simply affixing one to a ring or amulet is enough to create a simple light source. They can only emit light for a certain amount of time before needing time to recharge. They recharge under direct sunlight, and the amount of time they spend in the light is how long their charge will last in the darkness. On their own, they simply glow when in a dark place, with no way to control its activation -- however, using the stone as a basis for an enchanted item can give you the ability to control when to expend the charge stored inside of it.
