Attagur

Jotun of the Mountains Attagur (a.k.a. Indun, The Great Giant, Star-Steward, Framhjer)

The greatest of the giants, the Jotun of the Mountains. Attagur is perhaps the most powerful and respected of his people, revered not only by the giants but also by mankind who he was a storied friend.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Born from one of the most ancient beings, Jord, the manifestation of the world itself. Jord blessed her son with diligence, self-control, and a fiery and righteous soul. Attagur himself is said to tower even over the mountains and his mighty footsteps shake the earth, little if any, can stand in the path of this mighty giant and hope to overcome him.

Special abilities

Unmatched strength, durability, and sensory perception

Akin to most giants, as Attagur grows larger he develops a better sense of touch, of space and of his surroundings. This negates the awkwardness that comes with the immense size of the giant and ensures he is aware of his surroundings and cannot injure and destroy unknowingly.

Specialized Equipment

Possesses Hristari, the mighty hammer and twin of Magan, the weapon of the sky god Rymr. Rymr and Attagur were meant to balance each other and bring an end to the quarrels between god and giant, however, Attagur's duty overcame this notion as he was given the task of guarding the entrance to the cave of the world tree and by extension Nila herself, a task quite fitting for the protective and diligent Attagur.

Personal history

Born beneath the root of the great world tree, Attagur was showered in the dew waters of the Muhaitza alongside his brother when they were found by Nila the great mother. In her pity, she nurtured the two of them and as they grew too large to be contained among the twins, Nila brought Aurelmir down into the world. But in seeing the state of the world then, Nila did not place Attagur down with him, instead, he was cradled among the stars in the early springing of the world. And as Aurelmir was slaughtered by the gods, Attagur grew to a great and terrible size, bathing in stellar light. Only after the murder of his kin was he allowed to come down into the firmament of the world. And he came to greet the hostages of the gods, three giants taken to ensure peace existed between these two races. And Attagur was revered and held to a high power as the brother of the father of the giants. There at Ingavolla, the land of the gods, Attagur came to be most favorited by Ranir the king, and wisdom and knowledge each passed to the other.    Yet Attagur's heart was spurred to adventure, and he left the safe enclosure of Ingavolla and set about proving his valor by traveling far and wide among the world searching to help the helpless and save those in need of saving. Great tales are told of this friendly giant coming upon caves of early man, overcoming the hardships thrust upon him, and battling great monsters who threatened mankind and the Jotnar. Among Attagur's mightiest early feats were his battles with Illska the Great Raven and another duel with a shadowy foe beset on destruction and death with lightning in its eyes. The battle between Illska and Attagur is among the most famous known in the world even today as the tale was carried through the ages by the astonished watchers of the ferocious contest between the giant and the raven.

Yet due to Attagur's might and his imposing size, he was seen with apprehension by many of the gods who feared the power wielded by this giant. Though Attagur was a soft-spoken and gentle soul, his heart was still ablaze with passion and so the gods looked for a way to subdue him peaceably, fearing his wrath for none among them seemed to be able to battle him. It came to be that Rymr, lord of the skies and mightiest of the gods was chosen as their champion should the giant come to oppose them. However, under mysterious circumstances, Attagur was given a Verunir, one of the traveling stones which allowed him to return to Ingavolla, the realm of the gods. In a panic, the gods anticipated the giant would come to besiege them in their realm but instead, Attagur came bearing calls of peace and parlay, seeking to reach a resolution to their qualms with him. One of the gods, Smíðr was the finest craftsman among them and understood well the position his kin found themselves. With his great skill in the forge, he crafted twin weapons of terrifying might and bid his servants give each to Attagur, and to Rymr who served as a counterbalance.

With these two weapons in opposing hands, Attagur came to terms with the gods, and peace was maintained. The gods, however, tricked the giant and instead of returning to his home, he was offered the extremely prestigious position, to return to the side of Nila high above and act as the steward of the world tree. Turning down this generosity would greatly anger the gods and so Attagur accepted the offer. Now in service to the gods, Attagur returned to the heavens, unaware of the terror Rymr now inflicted upon his people as he spilled their blood with Magan and came to be a figure of terror for the giants of the mortal world. Only one time has he been cast down and returned to service in the mortal world, for upon his awakening was the god Timur chained and imprisoned deep below in Vuhkalin. For the murder of his kinsman, Attagur awoke and with thunder in his step, he came upon the god of fire and bested him.    These are the tales of his life, but the last is ordained by fate, that as he rests he will only once more arise in the hour of utmost need. Grasping his great hammer he will awake, cast down upon the world once more during the coming day of wrath. His descension will announce the final hour, and he will do battle with the final foe of the gods and defend the great Muhaitza from all who wish it ill. Until that hour, his body rests slumbering beneath the root while his spirit is high with the great twins and he waits in watchful vigilance, while his tenders reward him with among the highest of enlightements at their side.
