Personal history

Born to the influential de Grüner family on their estate in Vorone, Mirella Auslana de Grüner was the 2nd and last child of Ricerd de Grüner and his wife Lioba. Contrary to what some would suspect of influential noble families, the de Grüner household was a close-knit family with Ricerd and Lioba serving as loving and supportive parents to Mirella and her older brother Nieland or "Niel" as he was commonly called. The de Grüner family was the epitome of success, Ricerd was a key financial advisor to Reik Ars "The Lean" Deulichling, and Lioba served as lead ambassador to the northwestern Hasdinian Reichs. When it came time, Niel came to be the primary bodyguard to the Reik's only son Orell who Mirella was betrothed. In the eyes of the citizenry, the most popular de Grüner was by far Niel who stood towering over most and looked like the picturesque figure of Juranian chivalry. This adoration was extended to Mirella who soon grew into a beautiful and witty young girl and was seen as the beloved future Duchess of Vorone with her marriage to Orell assured.

However, all was not assured in the politics the de Grüner's were involved in, with the aging Reik Ars being the antithesis of his financial advisor in paternal affection, young Orell grew into a vindictive, craven, and mentally unsound heir which drew the concern of his overseer Niel. Routinely, Niel would raise his concern for his sister's future to their father, and routinely, their father would assure Niel that with he and Niel as guiding figures for Orell's time as Reik, Mirella had nothing to fear from their marriage. This would be a generous interpretation of the future, with Ars' death, Orell became Reik of Jurane and Dux of Vorone and finally married to Mirella after his own coronation. From the get-go, Ricerd and Niel proved unable to protect their daughter/sister from the wrath of Orell who played the part of the respectable monarch in public but in private let his ravings be known to his new wife who grew terrified of him and slowly the bubbly and affectionate Mirella of old hardened and became withdrawn and resentful. Life under Orell's thumb changed Mirella and soon she grew distrustful of her father and brother, only talking to her mother and a few select friends at court.

The following incident is highly scrutinized and versions of the story differed in the intent; Ricerd was sent on a diplomatic mission south to possibly open ties to potential trading partners and allies in Mykra. While sailing the Arnziatic Gulf, Ricerd's ship sank and he drowned at sea along with the gifts meant for the new allies. The de Grüners immediately suspected foul play on the part of Reik Orell as storms were not reported in the area and Ricerd had been sailing on a ship loaned to him by the Reik for the journey. Following these private accusations, a dialogue between Niel and Reik Orell initially proved to quell the situation and Orell assured Niel he had no part in the tragedy and that he would pay for the funeral out of his own pockets as a sign of good faith. Niel himself was assured and after the funeral, he was sent with a retinue north through the pass at Fauils to solve a dangerous strike of mining workers at the quarry there. According to later accounts, Niels was "abandoned" by his companions after the workers had been riled up and he was killed with a pickaxe.

These tragedies shook Mirella to her core and in a rage, she confronted her husband and demanded to know the reason for his betrayal of her family to which Orell simply laughed and told her to keep her delusions to herself. In response to this, Mirella dedicated her next year of life to forming evidence that Orell had orchestrated her father and brother's deaths. This pursuit came to a head on the holiday of Fröhlicher when Mirella's conspiracy found evidence of Orell's involvement and dramatically had him arrested as he was preparing the feast in Jurane's great hall. With evidence of his orchestrating of the murders found and read aloud in the streets, crowds demanded justice and soon Mirella oversaw the punishment and dethroning as Orell had quite the fate, his tongue was cut, the right eye blinded and his right hand cut off to the elbow, he was sent into exile to the far east never to be heard from again.

Taking power as Reika and Duchess, she immediately dropped both her regal last name of Deulichling and the title of Reik as she chose to readopt her family's last name and distance herself from the titles of the former ruling family. Reigning solely with the title of Duchess, Mirella has transferred the martial authority of that office to her trusted advisor and friend Jahn van Irminger who leads the realm's military. Choosing to remain unmarried, Mirella soon made a play to avoid the questioning of her recent actions and instead fabricated cause for war against the neighboring Reich of Ebavin which quickly and decisively brought new territories into her domain and buried questions of her seizing of the crown from her now out of the picture former husband. After this conquest, the court of the Reika was reordered and new faces now gained positions of prominence as her childhood friend and lover, Jahn van Irminger now served as the Reich's marshal, and her new financial ministers Enno and Alya Dandelo were brought in as new blood to more effectively run the Reich's finances and develop the territory as effectively as possible.

The combination of victory in the field and effectively run government made Reika Mirella extremely popular and soon she was adored in the streets once more. Now Reika Mirella de Grüner reigns as the adored monarch of a thriving nation on the rise in the region and ready to burst onto the geopolitical landscape attracting the attention of a certain band made up of a lowly Lakic youth named Marius, a dutybound huntress by the name of Leuctra Falitan and her lovestruck companion Zephyr Haukea.
