Personal history
Dyachuk was born into a Davoynik and freed serf family sometime in 660 in the region of Chornny Gariv. A young Lev Dyachuk is said by the man himself to have spent more time in the village cockade than as a free man. He claims to have stolen every good in a village and to have slain a man with nearly every weapon before the age of 18. . The Davoyniks are a social group in the plains west of the Teroare mountains, where they ride and herd, living a life atop the saddle and in large hosts. Davoynik law is unwritten, many codes of honor and respect are earned and for a boy such as Dyachuk, life on the long plain was rough, and unforgiving yet came with an awe-inspiring mystical beauty to it. Yet an oddity among the Davoyniks is their high rates of literacy, and education seems to be something the riders take immense pride in, having men, women, and children learning to read in the different scripts of the east at a high rate.
Dyachuk says he fought all manner of enemies in his early years as a Davoynik rider. During the Sokoly War of Freedom, Dyachuk fought against the rebels and fought them brilliantly at times, namely at Raziz and Ostec where he routed scattered Kovnan forces and took many captives who fetched high ransoms. Dyachuk was operating in the east when news of the defeat at Ovarcha Pass came and Dyachuk voluntarily led his men in deserting to the victorious rebel's side. As he had switched sides before the war concluded, Dyachuk and his riders were not punished for their antagonistic behavior during the war but his deeds were not entirely forgotten and he was frequently forgotten when it came to credit in his fighting on the eastern theater.
When Kraul Janek was elected, Dyachuk volunteered for service as he met the Kraul and was greatly impressed with his demeanor and strong character. Dyachuk was given command of his Davoynik host, being made Ataman. Once more, when war broke out with the Ciezkins once more, Dyachuk remained loyal to his new overlord and commanded his men well, leading them in the front as he had always done. Frequently dismissed as "The Mad" by his Sokoly compatriots, their dismissive tone does not negate their admiration for his bravery in the thick of fighting as Dyachuk remains a fantastically aggressive cavalry leader. Dyachuk's name is almost a badge of honor in his native Gariv, where his epithet of "The Mad" truly is a term of endearment for his stunning courage in the thick of the fighting.
Dyachuk was acclaimed for his bravery in the fight against the Ciezkins preceding but also became notorious in the region for his conduct after the Battle of Zolec. While Grand Marshal Piotyr Jarząbek's force fought the bulk of the fighting, Dyachuk was placed in charge of the force that hunted the scattered Ciezkins down. It was here that Dyachuk's name now rings with infamy as his Davoynik raiders mauled these scattered forces and their violent onslaught against the Ciezkins would earn the Marshal enmity and an official renouncing by the Grand Marshal and the Kraul as tales of Dyachuk and his Davoyniks brutality shocked all who heard them. It does not seem that Dyachuk committed these barbarous acts without cause, as the Ciezkins never forgot the sight of Davoynik sabers glinting in the moonlight, they surrendered and their loyalty to their suzerain is maintained with the image of that moonlit night in the back of the minds of those who survived the Davniak onslaught.
In the war against the Kovnan states of Kizwalka and Siliza, Dyachuk was on his best behavior and was assigned to the bulk of the invasion force, the first time his Davoyniks fought alongside the Hussars and Duza of the Black Army. In engagements, Dyachuk and his riders proved a valuable flanking and diversionary force as well as invaluable scouts while on the march. When the war ended, Dyachuk was rewarded with the title of Hetman, a distinctly Davoynik title in his native Gariv, one half of the new Orozred province of Zibrav. Now a cushy statesman, many of his former horsemen jokingly deride the unhorsed Davoynik as going soft, something typically taken back as a famous story of Dyachuk in his new role is told.
One day, a former Davoynik visited his old commander in his estate, surrounded by splendor and abundance, the Davoynik expressed envy of his estate, Dyachuk supposedly offered a challenge to come down in the courtyard. There, the soft statesman would get ten shots from his bow to hit the Davoynik. Dyachuk stated, "If I miss, the whole estate is yours." The Davoynik naturally declined this offer. Dyachuk then made his point, "I've had a thousand arrows shot at me from much closer range before I got all this."
