The Verunir

The Verunir or "World Spinners", the great stones of traversal forged by the god Illmarinen with assistance from Nila herself. The Verunir are immensely powerful artifacts, capable of shifting the position of the wielder in relation to the cosmos. When wielded correctly, they allow instant travel anywhere in the universe and are the only means to reach the blessed realm of Ingavolla, the residence of the gods.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Each Verunir was forged personally by Illmarinen, they contain an especially rare substance inside them, a gift from Nila which allows them to reorder the wielder's place in the universe. Visually this appears as most strikingly as the stars realigning and spinning at a nauseating speed. To the wielder, it appears as if the world around them is spinning violently while they remain still. When completed, the desired location should be arrived in and slight nausea comes over those unused to traveling in this manner.

Composed of a glass-like material that remains hard and indestructible, Verunir are thought to be made of immaterial space, blasted and forged into a black glass that contains a mysterious multicolored light that dances and waves inside its encasement. The nature of this light is an absolute mystery, with only Nila, Ranir, and Illmarinen knowing of its nature though it is thought to be similar to a concept called a stellar soul, like a tangible human soul which can be evaluated by the gods, a stellar soul is the "soul" of a star.

History

Illmarinen was the greatest craftsman of the gods, son of Noba he was a student of the forge and adept at smithing and all manner of crafting. Challenged by his fellow kin, Illmarinen sought a way to craft a device by which travel to Ingavolla could be made easier as, before the construction of the Verunir, the only way to arrive in Ingavolla was via secret passages known only to Ranir. Seeking out his uncle, Illmarinen was instructed to forge his new devices with the aid of Nila, creator of the gods and seeming master of the cosmos. With this aid, Illmarinen was able to forge the Verunir, the world spinners which allowed instant travel to anywhere in the universe with the aid of Nila's primordial magics. Verunir were given to the gods and soon, the secret passages of Ranir were closed away and Verunir became the only method to reach the bright and blessed halls of the gods besides suffering a mortal death.

Significance

The Verunir are unlike anything crafted before or since. Forged and worked on by the smithing god Illmarinen, the Verunir hold immense power over the universe. The process of their forging was in secret between Nila and Illmarinen, a secret only known to only to Ranir who aided Illmarienen in gifting them to the other gods. The Verunir are the only means of travel (other than death) to the dimension of Ingavolla, the realm of the gods. A Verunir was each given to the gods though by now some have been lost while significantly, a Verunir was taken from Timur when he was banished to the fogs of Vukalin after his treachery was exposed. A key artifact of importance to the fire god, Timur must recover a Verunir if he wishes to reach Ingavolla in order to begin Dresirea.
