Moyen
Small town below the Hawk Cliff, known for hosting the Unification Fair
Introduction
"Moyen is so small compared to the other cities... I expected something bigger to hold such an important event!"
Located on the edge of the Sylvinar Forest by the Hawk Cliff, Moyen is a small town born from the union of the Kingdom of Archana and the Hawkcliff Citadel. It is better known for being where the Unification Fair takes place, an annual event that celebrates the Hawkcliff Treaty and the long awaited union of the entire land.
Demographics
In Archana, while it is unexpected to find too many Dwarves outside of Vilennor and the Hawkcliff Citadel, Moyen is home to many of them, summing over half of its population. The reason for this is the proximity and cultural link to the later - it is not uncommon for a few Cliffers to move down to Moyen to work and end up staying.
Elves who leave the Sylvinar Forest often end up in Moyen as well, since it is a much less intimidating settlement as a first stay, unlike the other bigger, busier cities. Despite having the largest number of elves per habitant than most settlements in Archana, they are still few and far between.
Government
The Moyan government is simple. Officially, the settlement is under the rule of the Count of Hawkcliff, Bhogur Stanweall, but due to the distance to the Citadel a Mayor is responsible for taking care of the daily issues. They manage the town, while a judge applies the law and settle disputes among the citizens.Defences
Moyen's defenses don't enjoy of walls and towers, depending more on the forest that surrounds it. The order is maintained by the locals themselves the defenses are in the hand of the militia, but during the Fair, soldiers from the Citadel come down to reinforce the security of the town.Industry & Trade
Whatever Moyen produces is either consumed by the locals or traded with the Citadel above. They don't have much space, nor reasons, to expand their productions further since a dense forest surrounds them and the town is too out of the way from the rest of the Kingdom. Despite that, the number of traders is rather high. Due to the harsh journey to the top of the cliff, most incoming traders would have a hard time delivering the goods to the Citadel, so Moyen serves as a midpoint. All goods are traded with the dwarf traders in the town, who then take them up to Hawkcliff with the use of Earth magic. The same is valid for the opposite, the few minerals that the Cliffers won't use, they bring it down to Moyen to trade, more often than not, for food.
Infrastructure
As a small town, Moyen doesn't have much beyond the basic infrastructure. A watermill and a water-powered sawmill make use of the river to meet most of the local's needs, and a well-kept road leads into the town. The center of Moyen is a large, open area, like a square, where the main part of the Fair takes place. But the most prominent and unique feature in the town in certainly Moyen's Light. Even though it is kept by the Citadel, this Beacon is used to show the path to Moyen during the entirety of the Fair.
History
When the Hawkcliff Treaty was signed, the Archani rejoiced over the complete unification of the land. The Cliffers offered a festival to celebrate the event, but since the trip up the mountain was too hard for most people to accomplish, they decided to hold the Unification Fair below the cliff, which is how Moyen was born.Architecture
As a midpoint between the Cliffers and the other Archani, Moyen's houses were built with stone from the dwarves and an architectural style of the Archani. The houses are small, with walls made of piled stones and wooden frames. They resemble the buildings in Blackbourne, but with a unique feel thanks to the different materials.Geography
Located between a mountain and a forest, the geography around Moyen is more varied than most settlements in Archana. at one end, closer to the Bashmu Range, the ground is rockier, slopier, and more rugged. Towards the other end, closer to the forest, the terrain is flatter, with sparse trees, and better soil for farming. A small river comes down from the mountains and through the town, providing the Moyans with fresh water.
Natural Resources
While it is located at the base of the Bashmu Range, Moyen doesn't have any direct access into The Veins. There isn't any urgency in creating a path either, as the town isn't equipped to deal with the infestation of Goblins in the western tunnels and the Cliffers already got this side covered. That aside, Moyen thrives in hunting, farming, and woodcutting, as game, wood, and soil are the strengths of the region it is located in. Those are all mostly for local use though, as there isn't enough for large scale trading.
