Crucifixion
A form of torture and public execution performed on enemies and traitors of the empire with once high social standing, or who were very vocal opponents of the state.
History
When the first official crucifixion in Imperial history was performed it used a standing cross akin to those used in the Bhajirits. Later this practice was altered to a lower X shaped cross in order remove more dignity from the victim. The original upright cross didn't force the victim to slouch enough in the eyes of the public at the time, the lower cross compared to the upright cross puts more strain on the hips and shoulders of the victim as they are spread-eagled by gravity and fatigue. As an addition to the normal tearing and lacerations caused by the already at the time standard nailing, the lower cross could lead to muscular tears in the thighs, and hip joints.
In one case, Militus Cherario, a particularly heavy set individual it is noted to have rent his pelvis in two.
