Warforge: Engineered to Serve

"I would have a Warforged butler if I was not so untrusting of the creators motivations" -Aquietus

History of Manufacturing

For nearly everyone who lives in the modern era Warforged are impressive constructs first manufactured by the Gnomish engineer Womplin Cooglesprocket as he first introduced them to the modern world in 3e645 as labourers who would free up common workers to take positions of greater responsibility. It was quite the prospect in a budding industrial era, but the price of manufacturing and the time required to train them in various tasks proved to be too detrimental to their actual use in the industry. At the time the second Ogre War had already begun and most nations were taking on significant casualty. So instead Cooglesprocket sold them to the highest bidder as metal soldiers to fight our wars and kill our enemies. While Cooglesprocket sold every last one he created the limits of manufacturing proved to be less then promised and when the ogre wars came to an end the salvaged Cooglesprocket Warforged were repurposed or perhaps returned to their original purpose as laborers.   it may surprise some to know that Cooglesprocket did not invent the Warforged. in fact Cooglesprocket did not even build them. He was and is a opportunistic tinker who happened upon Warforged destroyed during the initial Sanguinspine invasion of Braedstone in 3e628. He repaired those he could and sold the salvaged , but functional constructs as his own product.   Cooglesprockets Warforged were actually originally built and designed by the Dwarven god of Engineering Belladona Coldforge when she was mortal in the late first era. Even she did not develop them herself although she did unlock the secret to their design, and more importantly possessed the ability to make them sapient. Which no other engineer or artificer has been able to duplicate, save the goblins of the Earth plane who still pirated her designs from old blueprints found in dwarven ruins that had somehow been plane shifted into the chaos planes.   The original creators -as far as archaeological records have discovered- were in fact the mysterious people known as First ones. Their history itself is almost entirely speculated as no one has had sufficient time to study any ruins they may have left after being destroyed by the Elves and Dragons before recorded history on Aerath. What we do know is that they possessed technologies hundreds of thousands of years ahead of our time amongst those technologies were the warforged.   Few "First Ones" Warforged exist in the modern day or at least few have been discovered. The most well known of which were discovered in the abyssal plane some time in 3e627, and were lost shortly thereafter when one of the many prospective groups of heroes of the 3rd era met their untimely demise facing down Grey Devils somewhere in the warped dimension of the abyss.   As such the oldest known Warforged to still exist and the only sapient Warforged known on Danos were the last great invention of Belladona Coldforge before her disappearance in the early second era. Even as a goddess Belladona still holds on to the secret of sapience in Warforged standing by her original proclamation that "mortals were undeserving of such wonders, and would only use them to bring ruin to the world."
  Deep Delve:Belladona's Creations

Belladona Coldforge was a legendary artificer, blacksmith , inventor and all around genius whose experiments and research was leagues ahead of her time even during the days of the Dwarven empire. Her greatest creations were what she called "Coldforge Soulforged" and are represented in her works as numbers which she later gave names. The numbers were represented as 0-10. Zero, One, and two mysteriously vanished just before Belladona herself vanished, and three through ten disappeared several years after. Until 3e625-3e626 during the initial start of the Ogre Wars and the Third war of the gods Coldforge three, seven and nine were rediscovered in a hidden bunker in the Obu desert. As compensation for freeing them from the bunker the prospective Onyu emporer Zhan commissioned an army of Warforged which were built and controlled by Three, unfortunately before Zhan and his companions could direct the Warforged army against the Armies of General Zolark they were killed by the then unknown Demon Lord Banos who would later Rise as Scourge, the transcendent god of deconstruction.   A few years later in 3e628 Zero, One and Two were awakened in a subterrestrial vault built by Belladona beneath Braedstone. Like the others they brought with them an army of non-sapient Warforged soldiers to battle against the invading forces of Ogres but soon after nearly the entire army was destroyed along with The long running King of Braedstone. After the first battle of Braedstone the Coldforged Soulforged disappeared yet again and only scattered unconfirmed sightings of any of them have been reported since.

Warforged of the Modern Day

In modern day Aerath Warforged are still non-sentient constructs. New Warforged have been built by various companies but none are capable of more then the most basic of tasks. There have been repted claims that Warforged have shown signs of evolution and developing sentience over the last decade or so but all these claims are unsubstantiated and thus any attempts to legally consider Warforged anything other then just another tool and property of a company or individual have been denied by governmental bodies across Danos. Although it is rumored that several major corporations on Danos are attempting to create advanced Artificial Lifeforms from Coooglesprocket's blueprints of his salvaged Warforged.
