New Equipment
The world of Aerith has its own unique flavor, beginning with a more "low fanasy" feel than most D&D campaign settings. Magic is not as readily available, though there is no penalty applied to character classes oir abilities. Instead, magic items and services scarce. This does not mean, however, that incredible items do not exist. Just that they take on more meaning when found.
Below are some examples of equipment/items unique to this campaign setting.
Heartstones are the beating pulse of many a magical wonder. These large, crystal monoliths—as large as a grown man’s chest—are relics from a world lost to time. Born in the fires of the Pre-Sundering era, they are unearthed with tantalizing rarity in ancient ruins or forgotten hoards. The secret to crafting these magical powerhouses has vanished with the age that created them, leaving empires and their wisest wizards scrambling for answers. A Heartstone is more than a gem; it's a fortune, a key to the heavens. These crystalline behemoths fuel the majestic airships of The Skyfarers' Guild, carrying them on breathtaking journeys through the clouds.
Tools (as defined by Chapter 5 of the Player's Handbook) assist with many tasks, some tasks being impossible to perform without the appropriate tool in hand. Once in a while a finely crafted tool can be found (or commisioned) that adds a bonus to your ability check when using it. When making an ability check using a masterwork tool, you add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus. This level of craftsmanship often demands a high price tag of 1,000 gold pieces more than a standard tool of the same type. This level of craftsmanship also makes the rarity of the tool one category higher than the base tool.
Masterwork weapons offer a small but significant advantage to martial characters. These weapons aren't magical, but rather expertly crafted for superior performance. A masterwork weapon grants a permanent +1 enhancement bonus to attack rolls, making it slightly easier for the wielder to land a hit. This bonus comes at a cost, typically 300 gold pieces more than a standard weapon of the same type. Masterwork weapons lack the magical properties of flaming swords or resistance-piercing axes, but for those seeking a reliable edge, they are a valuable investment. While not ubiquitous, they can be found in larger cities or commissioned from skilled weapon smiths, adding a touch of distinction and deadliness to a character's arsenal. The rarity of a mastwerwork is one category higher than the base weapon.
