Halfling Whistler
Halflings of all professions may whistle to pass the time, spread cheer, or liven their moods, but the Halfling Whistler is skilled beyond mere music.
The Whistler forms many parts of Halfing culture but their numbers are not as high as the outside world would think. Since most Halflings can be heard whistling, humming, or singing, it seems like there are a large number of Whistlers. Much to their hope for otherwise, the true Whistler is a very specialized field. They can be found in all areas of Halfling life, from the inns, taverns, shops, and streets of their homes, to the farms, industries, and even the military.
The Halfling Whistler is a cornerstone of the Halfling military and a very specialized support unit. Their ability to bolster spirits, liven moods and provide energy and inspiration make them extremely valuable on or off the battlefield.
Career
Qualifications
The ability to whet your whistle is all that is required to gain entry into this profession.
Halflings are notoriously cheerful and good-natured, frequently bolstering the spirits of those around them. As long as you are of good cheer, and can whistle a merry tune you can be on your way to becoming a Halfling Whistler.
Career Progression
Whistlers come in various sizes, demeanours, and skill sets, with one thing in common. They love to whistle.
Canaries are the first rank of Whistlers and typically are young, energetic, and happy Halflings who love to entertain those around them. They bolster those who are sad, and can often increase productivity to those listening.
Pipers are the second rank of Whistlers and have extended their skills to include lengthier and sustained whistles. As with canaries above they can decrease sadness, increase productivity, and even help others regain a level of focus, all for a longer period of time.
Warblers are the third rank of Whistlers and as above they can perform all that the Canaries and Pipers can do. Warblers have even been known to heal the sick and maintain morale during tough battles.
Master Whistlers are experts in their field and are highly sought after. They perform at such a high level that they can influence those around them to reach great heights, or become entranced with their sounds. They can heal wounds, sickness, and poisons, and can even induce sleep.
They are honoured and coveted as teachers, entertainers, and healers.
Master Whistlers have gone on to train those up and coming whistlers to hone their craft.
Payment & Reimbursement
Halfling Whistlers, like most Halflings are part of a community and as such rarely need to get paid for their services from other Halflings. If they are being employed outside of Halfling communities they will charge a high fee, depending on the needs of their work. However, it is very rare for those outside of Halfling communities to value or even know about the Halfling Whistler and their talents.
Other Benefits
The knowledge of serving their family and community is enough for most Halflings, Whistlers included.
Perception
Purpose
Halfling Whistlers exemplify Halfling cheerfulness, supportive endeavours, and community spirit. While most Halflings can whistle and hum, and make light of their situations, Halfling Whistlers step it up a notch. It is challenging to go beyond a Canary or Piper, and Warblers are very rare. Master Whistlers are extremely rare.
Social Status
Halfling Whistlers are extremely well thought of, and valued in any Halfling Community. Outside of their communities many find their incessant whistling and cheerful demeanour to be annoying. All the more reason for a Halfling Whistler to cheer them up.
Demographics
A small percentage of Whistlers have the necessary skill to go beyond a Canary.
History
Halfling Whistlers have been in place since the very early days of Halflings. Nothing has changed except for the numerous new tunes they have picked up over the centuries.

What a cheery and unique concept! I love it!
Thanks. I have had this concept for Halfling Whistlers for about 20 years now. I can finally find a place to share them. I love the positivity of Halflings in general and what better way than to whistle a jaunty tune :)
