Whisper-Bringer
The Whisper-Bringer is a role and rank unique to thresher culture; there are only a few in each City-State outside the Whitemark Islands, making them rarer than most non-thresher nobility. How a Bringer is chosen is not known to the general populace; whether the role is hereditary, voluntary, or earnable is also unknown.
To outsiders, Whisper-Bringers appear to serve community roles similar to layclergy or counselors, being largely advisory and deeply respected by other threshers. They are approached for counsel on family matters, personal matters, political matters, and even business matters. While they don't have any ability to rule in court, their advice is heavily weighed and usually followed to the letter.
To thresher commoners, Whisper-Bringers are near-sacred people who can elucidate the susurrus that whispers in the back of every thresher's consciousness. Though the method of their interpretation is unknown to most, a Bringer can speak to the nuance that often confuses threshers who feel the whisper's urges but cannot pinpoint the 'right' direction.
To the governors and highest administrators of the White Cities, the Whisper-Bringers are relays, not only able to accurately hear the whisper but to broadcast it more 'audibly' to threshers near them. Like a cellphone hotspot or a satellite relay, Bringers boost the signal of the whisper from its origin in the Whitemark Islands and enable even the farthest White Cities to more clearly feel the will of the whisper.
The radius of each Bringer's influence can vary between the area of a single room to the better part of an entire city-state. Age tends to increase the radius, but what enables Whisper-Bringers to serve as relays at all, let alone what makes some stronger than others, is unknown.
