The Boy who Saved Orilon

The Boy who saved Orilon is a children's tale about a brave boy who saved his town from destruction at the hands of monsters by petitioning the help of a Dragon.

Summary

The town of Orilon was under attack. Monsters had surrounded the town, threatening to destroy the town and gobble up every villager. The townspeople were very scared, and all of them hid from the monsters and hoped they would go away. All the villagers except for one boy. This boy was very brave, the bravest person in the whole town. While the monsters were sleeping, he snuck out of the village and went on a journey to find someone to save his village. One day, he reached the mountains and came across a large cave. The cave was dark and scary, but the boy was brave. He ventured into the cave, and came across a humongous, terrifying Dragon. The boy could've ran away, but the boy was brave. He stood up to the Dragon, and prepared to fight him. The Dragon, used to people running in fear, was impressed by the Boy's courage and offered to help the boy. Together, they flew back to the town, and the Dragon slayed the monsters threatening to destroy it. The town was saved, and the whole town hailed the boy as a hero for his great courage. It is said the Dragon still looks over the town to this day.

Historical Basis

The children's tale does indeed have a historical basis to it. The town of Orilon, an actual town located in eastern Dekrain. Instead of monsters however, the town was being threatened by the old Preyan Empire, on the first conquest on the continent. The army had surrounded the town, and were laying siege. While it was a boy who initially discovered the presence of a dragon, it was a group of town elders and warriors who convinced the not traditionally evil dragon to help save their town. It is not fully known how they convinced the Dragon to help but it did, and laid waste to the surprised invading soldiers. If the dragon is still watching over the town or even still alive is unknown, but Orilon is the only town in Eastern Dekrain to worship dragons as deities.
