Pharaki

There have always been two superpowers in Aeseron: On one side the Rakefians, and on the other the Pharakians. The predominantly human polis used to rule over most of eastern Aeseron. Their legions of professional soldiers proved a worthy match for the Sun Elves and their ancient magics. In the Everlasting war, these two fought to an eventual standstill. The resulting fallout caused all the modern-day poleis to once again reclaim their independence, leaving the empires to a much smaller, but still relatively big territory.   Pharaki deems itself the center of culture and civilization. It claims to be the most progressive city-state on the continent, but its politics are actually fairly conservative. They are, however, the capitol of technological progress. Its aqueducts and sewer system alone are deemed wonders of engineering.

Current State

Pharaki is, technically, a democratic republic, decisions being made by an elected senate. But the actual power of this senate varies often, depending on the people seated on it. It has happened before that one of the senators becomes so powerful, it seemed that the republic was steering right into becoming an empire yet again. Yet at this very moment, it seems the senate is fairly balanced, with three big factions vying for the largest part of the power. These factions are as follows:
  • The Dulianii, led by Flavius Dulianus. Staunch traditionalists, who believe that Pharaki needs to become a military superpower once again.
  • The Scitorii, led by Adara Bentorus. Formerly led by Antor Scitorus, until he was assassinated, now by his widow. Progressives, whose ideas are often deemed radical by the other factions.
  • The Mendorii, led by Melianos Mendor. Their policies are quite "in-between", so while many think they are the most rational of the factions, many also think that they should take more of a clear position.

    The Colosseum

Named after the legendary warrior, Collossus, this arena pits some of the greatest warriors against each other. Not all of these warriors are fighting out of their own volition however. Some of them are prisoners, mostly of war. Then again, some "gladiators", as these athlete-warriors are often called, are professional fighters. Making a lot of money when they are successful, and a warriors's death when they are not.

    Symbols

The symbol mostly associated with Pharaki has always been the golden Lupavis . But every legion has it's own symbol.
