Thanatos

Thanatos was founded long ago by a coalition of mages of all races, as a safe haven for magically inclined people. Even now it has the most liberal relationship to magic. There is an independent magical academy, the Ashu'Ma Academy, necromancy isn't frowned upon, and the leading noble family have been magic-users since the dawn of the city. While the bloodline of the monarchy is matriarchal, overall people of all genders are given the same chances. Because of all this freedom, Thanatos often attracts people who would be deemed malpracticers of magic elsewhere.

Current state

The current leader of Thanatos is Witch-Queen Numunia. She is assisted in her governing by a council of mages, each responsible for a different part of governing. This council is named the Council of Nyx, named after the first witch-queen, and consists of:

Symbols and iconography

The proud symbol of Thanatos has always been a winged sphinx with a skeletal face. This gloomy beast is very much seen in architecture, fashion, weaponry, etc.
