Alric Thedeos

Striving to be “the loyal soldier” Alric, a 31 year old Crownguard of Alar , has gone through relentless trials in his life trying to navigate political intricacies within the corrupt Kingdom of Alar. Ultimately left an unsworn knight, marked as a traitor, and left wondering the morality and altruism of his actions.

Early Life

Born on the 4th of Atlan in 1246 during the Month of the Unbroken Beast, Alric is the sole son of Cecilia and Tenrac Thedeos. His father, a minor noble of Trigate, succumbed to the vices of gambling in his 40s, plunging the family into bankruptcy and despair. The ensuing hopelessness drove Tenrac to take his own life in one of Trigate's well known brothels, Diver’s Den. He would spend one last good night on Aesor before his visit to Mordium, the Annon of the Dead, leaving Alric in the care of his resolute mother. Alone and with limited means, Cecilia, with the help of Alric’s grandfather’s old connections, managed to find her way into Trigate’s inner circle. Working tirelessly as a servant within the royal ranks of Trigate, she labors to secure a place within Trigate’s Citadel, the home of the monarchy.   Alric's upbringing was shaped not only by his mother's dedication but also by the influential figures of the Chaplet Ring, who frequented their lives due to their heritage. While Cecilia toiled day and night, Alric absorbed the wisdom and values of lords, ladies, servants, and knights from across Alar. This exceptional upbringing inspired him to become a Crownguard, with aspirations of joining the esteemed Sworn Knights of the Chaplet Ring.     Due to his unique political exposure, he was put into a situation where he knew too much of Alar’s politics to be made a simple Crownguard. The circles his lineage influenced were of an older time, and no longer in the best standing with the revered orders. The bureaucracy of the Chaplet Ring would not have him, desiring to station him far away from their own ways and means. As such, he was appointed as Crownguard, but placed at the furthest reach of this station. A stone’s throw from actual knighthood.   Despite his motivation and warrior prowess, Alric faced an uphill battle within the Chaplet Ring. His being passed over was well known within the Citadel. Casting him as an outsider among the other Sworn Knights and servants. While he was entrusted with the crucial duty of protecting the royal family just like the others, he remained excluded from the prestigious ranks of the Sworn Knights.   The pervasive disdain and scorn from his comrades, who saw him as an interloper, exacted a toll on Alric's spirit. Years of enduring the harsh treatment, shaped his decisions and efforts during the Perished Roots Rebellion. Serving to bring further shame, rejection, and isolation within his already tumultuous life. Slowly eroded his loyalty to the Chaplet Ring.

The Perished Roots Rebellion

In 1270, at the age of 24, Alric made a momentous decision that would forever alter his fate. Fueled by devotion to the monarchy of his grandfather’s and a desire to see Alar returned to its former glory, he joined the ranks of the Banners of the Perished Roots during the Perished Roots Rebellion. Alric's valor and service on the frontlines earned him a knighthood from Lord Derreck Hart, a prominent figure within the rebellion. His loyalty and conspicuous actions, coupled with his uncovered visage during battle, made him a recognizable figure among both the Windbreak Pact and the rest Revered Orders.   The rebellion ultimately ended in a disaster, with Alric and fellow loyalists returning to Trigate. As investigations and executions unfolded, Alric's identity was known to the Revered Orders. Although the Chaplet Ring shielded him from execution, he became even more of a target of ceaseless harassment, scorn, and mistreatment. His knighthood was deemed invalid.

At a Point of No Return

Alric's life, once characterized by valor and dedication, gradually unraveled. The unrelenting torment, both from within and outside the Chaplet Ring, wore him down. His decision to accept a quest and invitation from Goderin Hilt, the adversarial Headminster of Alar, marked a turning point. This choice severed his already tenuous ties with the Chaplet Ring and plunged him into a world fraught with uncertainty.   Isolated and betrayed, Alric Thedeos found himself adrift amongst the chaotic undercurrents of Alarian politics, grappling with the consequences of his own actions and the relentless adversity he’d faced. His life, once filled with promise, became plagued with enduring trials of a hero unrecognized, misunderstood, and left to fend for himself in a world that had long turned its back on him.
