Beasts

Beasts (otherwise known as Prieo) are a species among the Lesser Beings that inhabit all the existing landscapes of Aesor, alongside Animals and Monsters. Their origins trace back to the mysterious Draconic Era, an ancient and pivotal period in Aesor's history that continues to elude full understanding. To this day, many academics of Aesor delve daily into the complex tale of the Beasts, drawing upon historical accounts, ancient Abbey texts, archeological discoveries, and biological studies.   Beasts are incredibly varied both in strength and mental capabilities. Their intellect is generally below mortal brain capacity, though are wildly regarded as threats by most civilizations, as many or not all Beasts are still driven by predatoruous instincts.

Origins

According to various sources, the Beasts emerged as the initial species of Lesser Beings. They were brought into existence by the Dragons who once ruled Aesor during the Draconic Era. The Dragons, it is believed, sought to populate the land with life and tasked the Beasts with serving and assisting them in their daily endeavors.   The creation of the Beasts was twofold in purpose. Firstly, they were designed to provide protection to the Draconic Kingdom, often referred to as the First Kingdom, as alluded to in the alleged Prophecy of the Óhin. However, they were also intentionally made less powerful than their Dragon creators, possibly to ensure they could be controlled or, in extreme scenarios, eliminated if deemed necessary.   The Beasts, much like the Dragons, were birthed from the elements, endowing them with a connection to the very essence of Aesor. However, their marcritic potency, power, and elemental connection were significantly diminished compared to the Dragons.   It is important to note that despite the Abbey's denial of this history, comprehensive mortal studies and research suggest that the Beasts were subjected to harsh treatment and neglect by their creators during this period, existing as virtual slaves to the powerful Dragons.

The Wild Escape

The historical narrative becomes increasingly unreliable following this point, with mortal theories attempting to decipher the circumstances surrounding the Beasts' creation and liberation. While the exact reasons behind their emergence remain shrouded in mystery, there is consensus that the Dragons played a pivotal role in the transition of the Beasts.   This defining event, often referred to as the Wild Escape, marks the liberation of the Beasts from the constraints imposed upon them by the First Kingdom. While most historians regard it as a momentous exodus of Beasts from captivity, some intriguingly propose that the Dragons willingly released their creations. The true nature of this event continues to be a topic of speculation and debate among scholars.   With their newfound freedom, the Beasts embarked on a journey of dispersion and settlement across the continents of Aesor. Over centuries, they underwent a diverse range of developments, with some Beasts evolving and adapting to their environments, while others experienced a decline in their attributes and abilities. Those Beasts that underwent degradation eventually gave rise to the ancestors of what modern Aesorians recognize as Animals.
