Great Jungles of Mezataan: Nanvi & the Hollow Rivers

The Nanvi River, one of the four Hollow Rivers coursing through the heart of the Great Jungles of Mezataan, serves as the primary entry point to this mystical and awe-inspiring wilderness. This majestic river is not only a vital transportation artery but also a sacred conduit connecting the outside world with the Mezataan’s mainland.   The Nanvi River marks the beginning of the Hollow Rivers' expansive network, making it the first step for those seeking to delve into the depths of the Mezataan Jungles by boat or ship (if they’re approaching from the South-Eastern point). Stretching across a significant distance, it forms a gateway through which adventurers, merchants, and explorers can enter this untamed jungle.   Approximately 100 miles into its journey, the Nanvi River gracefully divides into two distinct branches. One branch leads to the capital city of Ephyr and is known as the Nanviré River. The other, called the Nanivru River meanders towards the Underlight Mountain, a place of profound spiritual significance in Ephyran culture. The collective of the three rivers gave them their name known as Nanviri Rivers.

Role

The Nanvi River shoulders a crucial responsibility in facilitating the transportation of goods and people between the Councilleria and the vast oceanic trade routes beyond. It serves as a vital artery for commerce, ensuring that the lifeblood of the region's trade flows unhindered. To safeguard this essential lifeline, the formidable Nanvi Riverfort stands sentinel. Originally constructed as a humble gate, it was later transformed into an impregnable fortress during the times of the Struggle for the Sea. This fortress is a bulwark against potential threats and during the war, it was specifically built to fight off the threat from the marauding vessels of Alar trying to get into the Councilleria’s mainland.

The Hollow Chant

Yet, the true essence of the Nanvi River and its Hollow counterparts transcends the mundane. These rivers hold profound spiritual significance in Ephyran culture. When the Keepers perform the Hollow Chant, an ancient ritual that resonates through the Mezataan Jungles, the Hollow Rivers come alive. They are illuminated with a mesmerizing turquoise light, serving as a mystical call to gather at the Underlight Mountain to discuss national problems, disasters, questions and whatever that requires such a gathering. Everyone is invited, but no one is forced to attend the Hollow Chant’s gathering.
